New Phoenix Arcade CPO

Would it be possible for you to post a close-up shot of the three Ms. Pacs on the CPO for comparison to NOS? Looks nice.

..

Here you go!! I'm sorry the quality of the pic sucks, I can take a better one with the wifes Nikon tomorrow if needed.

I forgot, Darin is on holiday until july 5th...so probably no response from him until then...The CPO looks great. Wolf, could you make a close-up of the copyright on the side-art ?

Not really...it wasn't uncommon for manufacturers to do revisions of their art and sometimes it held a different year copyright as it was manufactured later.

Yes but Ms.Pac Man was never a Namco game !

Midway licensed "Crazy Otto" from GCC and turned it into Ms.Pac Man and Namco sued Midway because of it...

{Edit} Well almost right. Looks like Midway "settled" with Namco by handing over the rights, but it doesn't say here when that was.....
I stil find it very strange to see a Namco copyright of 1982....

Here's what Wikipedia says (which means, no guarantee to be 100% correct)....

Ms. Pac-Man was originally conceived as a bootlegged hack of Pac-Man called Crazy Otto, created by programmers employed at the General Computer Corporation (GCC).[2]
The programmers, surprised at the quality of the game they had created, showed it to Midway, Namco's American distributor of the original game. Midway had become impatient in waiting for Namco to release its next Pac-Man game (which would be Super Pac-Man), and were enthusiastic that such a game had come to their attention. They bought the rights to Crazy Otto, changed the sprites to fit the Pac-Man universe, renamed the game Ms. Pac-Man, and released it into arcades.[citation needed]
After the game became wildly popular, Midway and GCC undertook a brief legal battle concerning royalties, but because the game was accomplished without Namco's consent, both companies eventually turned over the rights of Ms. Pac-Man to Namco, fearing a lawsuit. Nonetheless, Ms. Pac-Man was the first of a series of unauthorized sequels that eventually led to the termination of the licensing agreement between Namco and Midway.[2] Ms. Pac-Man was later released on the third Namco Museum game; however, there is no mention of it in Namco's official archives (including the archives on all of the Namco Museum releases).
In 2001, Namco released an arcade board featuring both Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga in honor of the 20th anniversary of both games. It also features Pac-Man as a hidden bonus game. The later 25th Anniversary Edition allows all three games to be selected at the main menu.

These are after-market stickers, not surprising they'd have the original copyright date with the current copyright owner, the producer of the stickers probably thought that would be more legal that way.

It is kinda funcky to have two different copyright companies and years on the same machine.

I'll stick with my stencils I guess. But back on topic....that repro. CPO is virtually identical to the NOS. Maybe an update of their Galaga CPO can be next.

On both of my original Ms.Pac-man cabinets, (C)1981 MIDWAY MFG. CO. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED is on the control panel as well as the painted cabinet artwork itself.

I also just picked up a "perfect" repro cp overlay via eBay. Now if anyone can tell me where I can get a marquee I'd appreciate it. :)

Got a couple of the CPO from Phoenix arcade, great work. I have a question about the original control panel on the Ms Pac. There are holes on each corner of the control panel. What is supposed to go in each of these holes? Mine has a couple of screws, but that does not seem like it is right. Should there be just the carriage bolts in there to line it up with the holes in the bottom? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The screws are what are supposed to be there. I just left mine off though.

Do the screws just stick out the back? They don't hold the control panel down at all right? That is what the 3 latches are for. Just seems odd that there are screws there, maybe its just to help hold the sticker down for vandals?

That would be my guess. I figured they weren't needed and it looks cleaner without them.
