So I need at LEAST 2 more outlets in the garcade (I've posted that before). My question is this...

They are on the outer wall of the house, and the wall is drywalled. Do I:

1. do the PITA thing and try fishing the wiring through the wall AND the ceiling so I can get the wiring over to the circuit box side of the house

OR

2. can I put the outlets in using that metal tubing stuff, like you see with outlets that are found in an unfinished basement (at least for the wall part, to avoid having to fish the wiring through it)

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated on this.

I would use option C. Put a new breaker box in the garage that way you could run 220 if you needed to and all the outlets you need.

Option 'C' sounds VERY appealing, however I have never installed a new breaker box before. I only learned how to do new circuits a few years ago with the birth of the (g)arcade.

you can do either of your options. One will just hide the wiring in the wall and the other will leave the conduit and outlet box exposed on the outside of the wall. Besides cosmetics the downside to the exposed option is you will either need to keep the row of games on this wall a little further out from the wall since the exterior box will be a couple inches deep or you will have to leave a gap between games if you need your games pretty much flush back to the wall.

Thanks for the feedback- the neat thing though, IMO, is that the conduit would make for a cool motif in the (g)arcade with the tubes running down the walls. I'm assuming they could also be painted (how about black light paint- tell me that wouldn't be wild?).

Would you be able to fish/run/whatever new wire from the actual breaker box in the house to your location?

If so, and assuming you have an empty spot or 2 in the box, I think the solution is to run a new circuit with another breaker/circuit added to the box.

Fritz used this same technique and loves it. Wait, I guess he had tubesteaks running down the wall. Oh well, free bump!

Yes I have done this one once already. I ran a new 4-outlet circuit from the (g)arcade down through the basement to the original house circuit box. I put a new breaker in for that specific circuit and it is a beautiful thing. The only diff is, that's on the wall that joins the house. The one needing the outlets now is on the opposite side. And I will have to run the wire through the ceiling of the garcade and then down the outer wall to set them up.

you can definitely paint the conduit and I suppose if you wanted to get creative you could work out some sort of design as conduit can be bent and coupled to add shape and even extra pieces for design purpose.

This has opened a whole new door in my head regarding creativity... Thanks!! :D

For the two circuits I added I added one outlet below the breaker box ... and one outlet to the other wall uses pvc pipe down from the ceiling and across....

May I ask why you chose PVC over conduit? Personal preference? Pricing? Waddup.

Would PVC even be 'to code' if you need it to be? I'm far from an expert, actually base my stuff on the Black and Decker guide book, but metal conduit is standard, if run outside a wall I think.

Sorry... I might have misunderstood... mine runs INSIDE the garage...OUTER wall...

Yeah you have the scenario the same as mine would be, FF. And Joey's saying that in your scenario, he doesn't think that an inspector would be very happy to see your PVC on the wall with wires running in it.

I'm no contractor so I can't say if that meets "code" or not. I just know of the metal conduit stuff.

Plus we all know your "electrician" probably looked like this anyway so...... JK

Just run it in the wall.. out of sight. If you need to cut a hole in the sheetrock, no big deal. As intimidating as patching sheetrock seems, it's freakin easy.

Yeah I've done it before on a regular wall, but on this outer wall I think it *might* have that spray-in-the-wall insulation in it, and it might be harder to feed the wire through. Not sure.

I'm really diggin' the conduit idea, actually. All kinds off possibilities with that. It could make the room look more industrial or techy, depending on what I came up with.
