I picked up my second arcade game last night - a nintendo Vs. Top Gun. I got it in a half-hearted attempt on ebay not really expecting to win it. Made a 4 1/2 hour round trip to get it.

Plywood cab, coin mechs work, maybe a very slight screen burn (need a closer look). Needs a major air-out/cleaning - it has that certain mouse/rat/cat piss smell to it.

Played it after unloading it and the game is meh as I expected (I had it on NES BITD). I'm planning to return it back to a DK JR. or Mario Bros. I'm leaning towards Mario Bros since the monitor is already horizontal but mainly for nostalgia (a Widebody Mario Bros. was high on my want list, but I think I'll be happy settling for a Mario Bros conversion).

I'm excited to join the "Nintendo club" and also doubled my arcade collection. :)

Thanks for the bump!

It is a one chip swap, but you will need to find an 0002 PPU to use with it.

I suggest going on www.johnsarcade.com , there is a ton of vs/unisystem information on there. Including what chips will work with what PPUs. That game has a ton of potential, with just a chip swap it can be several different games!

Enjoy!

I'll definitely be checking out Johnsarcade website again.

I made a bad newb mistake when I picked up the game that I'm still kicking myself for. The guy mentioned he had a ton of boards "in the back" he'd sell me if I wanted to pick through them. I declined since my Dad had decided to tag along with me, I felt bad making him wait around plus it was already going to be late by the time we got home. I also didn't really know what I should generally offer for boards (probably untested).

Went I went to bed later, I started thinking of the potential stuff that could have been there that he would have likely sold for really cheap since I was already there anyways. I can't believe I didn't even bother to look...

Well, you already made a big purchase, maybe the guy would be willing to ship you boards for a good deal? Just something to think about. You'll learn very quickly it's good to have spare motherboards, PPUs, chipsets, etc. It makes swapping games so much easier.
