Watched episode 1 and liked it. I'm at a point in life where I don't care if characters are annoying and the plot is trite. Whatever. It's Voltron. My wife commented about the goofy grin I had while watching it. She thought it was cute. ;)

LOL, a man after my own heart.... Life is too short to constantly have high standards.

Too bad I don't have NF.. Maybe it will make A-Prime at some point.

My brother watched this when he was a kid. This one
seems dumbed down if you ask me.

Didn't they originally need a key or something to form Voltron ?

been a very long time

Been so long that I don't remember. It's like watching for the first time - again.

Missing SVEN, of course.... not very paladin-correct. As for Allura....looks like they just couldn't bring themselves to create an authentic black-looking character so they just made Allura look like she was left in a deep fryer far too long.

I just watched the first two episodes last night and loved it. Yeah, in the original show the lions needed keys to activate, in this version the lions are semi sentient and need a psychic bond with the pilots. Same end result.

I am really enjoying the show so far. It's got all the bits I remember from watching it as a kid along with better animation. I think the writing so far is great, the humor is quirky and enjoyable.

I also can't believe they still have the mice!!

Just watched episode 1 with my kids. They really enjoy it. Although my second daughter has the same twisted humor I do. Some of her responses to the show:
We're the last two of our ancient alien civilization
"I guess there's only one thing to do - breeed!!!"
On the sloth raft,
"Pika, Pikachu! We don't choose you!"
When the ship was blown up at the end
"Good job guys, blowing up the ship your dad and brother were on - idiots."

They made me promise I'd only watch it with them, and the humor was in their age range and they were laughing. It's cool to see this revamped, I tried showing them the original which was also on Netflix for a bit and they just didn't get it. Sven is gone and my kids thought Pidge was a girl for most of the 1st episode. I did as well and was hoping so there wouldn't just be 5 dudes protecting a princess in a castle.

I still mistrust those f'n mice though.

To be fair the old one was a hacked together and very watered down version of the real original Japanese version. They basically took the animation and subbed in their own plot.

I really liked this one, I hope they get a few more seasons out of it.

Will check it out. I watched voltron as a kid but don't think I knew what plot was ...shoot the bad guys and win.

Robotech seemed like an animated miniseries/soap opera to me though at the time. Probably need to go back and watch some of the old voltron's too.

You are right with the keys. Each time they went and got in their lions, they went to distinct areas, a tree, a volcano, a river (pretty sure it was a river), a cave, and a statue. Once inside the lions they all used their keys to start the lions.

I had a lot of the voltron toys growing up (and sadly a few years ago my voltron toy statue fell off a shelf and broke the black lion). The action figures for the various pilots also used to come with a key for the individual lions..that was easily the size of the character ;) a bit out of ratio.

I think it was the castle moat, but I could be wrong....

They also chose not to use some iteration of the unmistakable music, and narration, for the combine sequence to form Voltron. IMO it leaves the combine sequence lacking....

I just watched this last night, the character animation is crappy and Lance is pretty annoying in this version. The Lions look decent but I just don't think Americans can make amine as good as the Japanese.

Yes, I kept waiting to hear that awesome theme when they assembled
the lions and was sorely disappointed.

Got to the end of the 11 episodes and am ready for more.

Likes:
- They don't form Voltron every-single-episode
- Some of the dialogue was genuinely witty, not just corny.
- Bad guy is a really good "bad guy"

Dislikes:
- They got rid of the classic "Voltron forming" theme music. Should have left it in.
- The phrase (used by more than one character) "I think my lion is trying to tell me something"

:)

I'd like to see a live action Voltron in the same vein as Transformers. But only the first one, as the sequels were shite...

I'm still waiting for live-action Macross/Robotech. The best we got was "Robot Jox", and that was more like a Battletech movie (which would be cool if done well - lots of source material to draw from).

Unfortunately, based on the direction that Macross: Delta has gone, the movie would be more J-Pop than Veritech. Frontier had a good balance, but they have gone completely idol in this latest series. :p
