Hello folks, first post so be gentle. Just answer the parts that you feel like answering and thanks in advance for any input or advice. I spent more quarters on this game in the early 90's than I care to remember, and now I own it for $300! It could use a little love...

1-How hard is it to remove that plexiglass on the control panel that is broken? I'm thinking about just leaving the graphic under it because it is in good condition although it will have holes in it.

2-All of the buttons and joysticks are working, but if I replaced them, do you get better response on the game or is it best to just let them die first? Where is the best place to score those parts and what exactly am I looking for?

3-My cabinet was once a Simpsons cabinet according to an old sticker on the back, so I'm assuming someone just blacked it out and added these stickers to the side. Does anyone have the graphics scanned that actually look like the hardwood court? I have a large format printer in town that hooks me up.

4-Where can I find the locks and change boxes? Those are totally gone as you can see from the picture.

5-The monitor seems a little grainy and the colors aren't that great. Yes, I know it's over 15 years old and yes I am probably used to Hi-def TVs and such now, but are there adjustments that can be made or a replacement monitor that will make it come back to life?

6-Is anyone selling a new header? This one is torn and pretty faded. Actually, I'd be interested in any parts for this machine.

7-Who are the guys in Raleigh, NC or nearby that work on classic arcade machines? The guy I've been calling is putting me off.

8-How do I know which "version" I have? I hear people refer to v.1, v.2 etc. on these forums alot.

I'm sure I'll think of some other stuff, but please give all of the advice you can. I'll certainly appreciate it!

I got one but the side art has is fade it. My side art has a basketball image with the NBA logo in the middle.

1-Removing plexiglass on the control panel that is broken. Shine up the bolts you remove and Put a clear coat on the bolt heads. Reinstall the bolt and you won't have to look at bolt holes. Make sure you take picture of the wiringing and or label the wires this will prevent you from miss wiring the controls when you put the Control panelt back together.

2- Since I don't know how good or bad condtion your joysticks are I am not sure if replacing them will help. If you can tell a difference between the player's controls. I say It a good time to replace them all.

3-here a Link that talks about the Side art. http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=145124

4-Bob roberts Might have it. http://arcadecontrols.com/BBBB/index.html

5-Yes you can increase the focous of a monitor, It an adjustment On the flyblack transformer. Use Plastics tools to adjust the flyback to avoid getting shocked.

6-The NBA header does show up from time to time. Put an ad in the wanted section..

7- Don't know. I say take your business else where if someone is putting you off.

8- It should show up when your arcade runs through the rom testing phase.

answers to following questions

1. easy but you'll have to remove the buttons and atleast the stick shafts (you might need security bits to remove the 1/2 dozen or so screws).

2. yes and no, you could just replace the switches and that will give them better response if they are corroded or dirty.

3. this is a hot item lately, no one i know of does them yet tho.

4. Bob Roberts will have these as will many other places and people here on the forums (i got my over under coin box from bob and my locks from chips4sale here on the forum).

5. you can try adjusting the focus on the black flyback from the back of the machine (don't touch anything metal tho while you do it)

6. many people have nba jam marquee's here on the forums in the forsale section check there or ebay.

7. donno

8. when the machine first boots up after it does the rom check it will switch to another screen that will tell you.

btw i would definitely replace the plexi with new plexi, wouldn't wanna ruin that nice cp artwork.

1 - easy, remove buttons, sticks and bolts first. Get a lexan replacement, it won't crack.
2 - your call, bob roberts and lizardlick are good for replacements
3 - not that I know of. Mine is dedicated and has those grapics. gameongrafix has original jam side art
4 - hardware stores or KLOV user chips4sale usually has good deals on locks
5 - Most likely needs a cap kit and flyback depending on the model
8 - At boot up, it displays the revision #. After the rom check test.

Thanks!

Guys, all great stuff so far. I'm all ears, so please chime in anyone if you have more suggestions. Thanks so much!

Www.twistedquarter.com can replace all your switches, joystick handles, and locks. There was a marquee for sale a few days ago in the FS section. There was also a guy selling a lot of NOS artwork earlier this week...one of the pieces was the NBA Logo and another piece of NBA Jam artwork...and cheap too.

Check the second page of the thread. I passed because the small decals were for a conversion, not a dedicated. I was looking for a new "instructions" sticker on the top of the bezel, as mine is pretty faded.

Maybe we should hunt down the side art work and have someone print them out.
My side art is so faded the basketball back ground looks yellow. Laughs.

Remember, this is just MY personal opinion...but...

Have you considered restoring it back into a Simpsons cab?

I know when you picked this up, you must have been looking for an NBA Jams, but the Simpsons is a sought after game.

If it were me, I'd work on converting it back to its origins. Konami made the Simpsons, and Midway did NBA Jams. As it stands right now, your cab isn't even in the right line of manufacturer. Value wise, this would be the best choice for your investment.

One last note...As far as I'm aware...the amount of buttons on the control panel, and the use of JAMMA means you could more or less restore this to a simpsons cab, and still play NBA Jams on it with little effort (someone with more knowledge correct me if I'm wrong here).

Then, when that day comes to sell the game off, or trade it for something else, or just show it off, you will have something many folks would be interested in.

Again, My two cents.

On a side note...I love NBA JAMS so I'm not hating on the game. Just food for thought.

Display tuning?

Can anyone describe the flyback piece? Where is it? Anyone have photos? I am just curious as to how you tune the monitor, while you are behind it and what knobs I need to be touching.

most likely yours only has 2 pots (focus on top, and brightness on the bottom).

sweet spot for focus is somewhere in the middle usually.

use the color bar utility in the test menu to adjust your contrast (you want that at the point where none of the colors are bleeding).

it should be mounted below the control panel or inside the machine somewhere on the side if it's been moved. (it could look slightly different from the one pictured tho).

Looks like the P802! Had that one dangling out of the T2 machine i traded for MK1... I broke every friggin pot on that thing!

both of the machines i have right now have that same remote board, but my mk1 cab has a nice little plastic frame that goes around it, i'm super careful with them. i use to think they were hard to find but i found out otherwise when i came here :D .

ok

I def. know where all of the controls are. So, that being said.
1-use plastic tools
2-start with focus
3-then move to contrast?
I just want to make sure I have the proper order and I don't get fried...
