New MultiWilliams CPO Design - Feedback

looks good; i still like the simplicity.

one suggestion: move the "flap" button on the left side so that it matches up horizontally with the "flap" button on the right side.

Thanks.

I was thinking about that left Flap button. Its there because of the Reverse in Stargate/Defender... so you can hit it with your thumb. I will print both like this and with the left flap level with the right and see how they both feel.

Part of the problem of trying to get a CP that works with multiple, totally different games.

I don't care for the Sinibomb and Fire, they looked tacked on. If you could incorporate them better it might help.

I feel the same way...

I was thinking one of these 2 options:
<ul type="square"> [*]Put a box on the right (where the "Radar" screen is) listing the game and which button to use.
[*]Create a small sticker or placard that go on/behind the bezel that lists the games and the buttons [/list]
I am leaning towards option 2.

I like option 2 as well. Actually, for those who feel the cp is too busy, I say create "move cards" like modern games have. This way you could just put the cards for the games you have enabled in an easy to see place such as the base of the bezel.

That's my thinking. Kind of like the Neo Geo Mini Marquees.

That way if I dont want Sinistar on my WMS, I put in a card that does not list it.

I will mock something up.

The positioning of reverse on Defender is damn near perfect. Move it much further away and it will be an uncomfortable stretch if you play for more than a few minutes. If I were building that panel I would be trying to get the reverse button as close to the joystick as the stick's footprint would allow.

I agree. I printed both and with having it level, it just does not seem to work properly. What I am probably going to do is drill the holes in a scrap piece of wood and try out the layout...

Here is the first draft:

Not sure if the text is correct (heck, I dont recall ever playing Splat or Blaster).

I do need help with the text for defender/stargate. How do I explain it in 2 or 3 lines?

Minor changes:
- Changed 'flap' to red as the blue was hard to see
- Changed the border on the top to match the bottom. I did not really like the old one. thoughts?
- Change P1 & P1 from red to yellow

Again, feedback is more than welcome.

Be careful not to put 'inviso' too far away from 'thrust' and 'fire' as it is important to be able to use all 3 simultaneously on Stargate

Good point. I am going to compare it to my stargate tonight.

I like the card, but I'd prefer each game being seperable. For instance, if I don't want blaster on my machine I don't want the card to detail how to play the game.

I do like the latest cpo, but I am not experienced with playing many of the games so other's input on button placement should be incorporated.

At this rate you'll have this finished before I get home.

I honestly dont like that one. Its too busy. Just my humble opinion.

Not a problem. I think it's cool to come up with your own design but I think you're going to run into the same problem I did (and I had the original screens ready to go to the printer). In the final analysis, it was just too expensive to get them done unless a guy is willing to sit on several thousands of dollars for an indefinite period of time.

Forget the ink jet stuff. If you want them to be high quality, you're going to have to get them screened on 3M self adhesive vinyl and then covered for protection. It's the only way to have a product that looks great and does what it's supposed to from an appearance/protection standpoint.

I'm not trying to burst your bubble, but to do them right, it's going to take a lot of resources (both time and $$$).

+1. He's obviously planning to inkjet print them though. Yay, another inkjet printer.

Wade,

Why so negative? I never said I was going to have these silkscreened. I wouldn't even know where to begin.

I am doing this because I don't like the others out there, not because I am trying to compete with them. I am doing it for me. If other's want them, I will gladly share the files with them at no charge.

A friend has printed CPOs for me in the past, on a high quality ink jet, with 3M adhesive backing and covered for protection (either matte or glossy). I honestly cannot see that it is ink jet printed. He is going to print one of these for me, at which point I will check the quality, post some pictures and if anyone one wants one printed, I will do my best to help them. Will I make money on it? Absolutely not, my friend might make a few bucks, but I wont.

Enough said. Don't like the artwork or ink jet printed stuff, don't buy it or print it. Buy the Phoenix Arcade ones... make absolutely no difference to me.

I am done ranting...

I will make the files available. They are easy to do. If you let me know which one(s) you want, I will gladly do them for you. I will probably not have all of them on the card as I too will not have all the games enabled.

Not quite.

i'd totally forgotten about the "flap" button also being "reverse" for Defender/Stargate.

see what happens when you don't have a legend for the buttons?

so yeah, while the two "flap" buttons may not line up and it doesn't look as clean, the difference is probably necessary.

oh, and i like the new border much better.

I've got ink-jetted CPO's from Mamemarquees for my MB and Centipede (because there were no silkscreened alternatives) and they look _fine_.

Maybe Rich could do a run of these when they get finished ? Good work Barry, I prefer your tight design.
