Just watched the new Mortal Kombat footage here, and am blown away:

This has peaked my interest in doing a standup MK cabinet with a PS3 with a HD screen and internet capability, all with the original MK control panel to make the game the way it should be played.. Anyone done one of these in a CLEAN conversion?

For the record, I've seen a lot of hack jobs, but a good clean conversion would be nice.. One of the main problems I see is fitting a widescreen HD monitor into a MK cab and making it look like it belongs there... but perhaps it's been done.

And for the record, I would only do this to an already gutted MK cab, and there's plenty of them out there :) Believe me when I tell you I'd be the last to ruin a good working MK cab :)

I've been a fan of mk series from the start with mk 2 being my personal favorite. I'm glad they are returning to the 2d fighting system. I would love to see this in a cabinet and could see myself dropping quarters in just like when mk 2 came out at my local cade BITD.

awesome. Win!!

I'm loving how 2D (or at least, 2D-ish) gaming is making somewhat of a return.

And yes, I'm quite looking forward to this game, and have also thought about making some kind of custom cab for it. :)

No doubt the MK1-MK2 games were my favorite, and this one appears to be the closest one to the originals- a very good thing IMO. I am very much looking forward to this new game also. The DC-MK game was just pathetic IMO, and ever since MK4 I've been kind of down on the series, at least compared to the originals (I have played them all to a pretty good extent, though).

Even though I haven't really liked the series much since MKII, I've always had a go at whatever new title was released for the franchise. However, I couldn't have cared less about that game and didn't even give it a whirl.

The whole premise just seemed WAY too stupid.

This is the same engine as the DC vs MK game. IN fact, most of that game was 2D since you couldn't really "dodge" anything up close, only walking around was in 3D from afar.

I kind of gave up on the series when it went 3D, I just couldn't get into the gameplay changes, and with the weapon/style system I totally lost interest. When I saw MK vs DC and saw no fatalities I ran away as fast as I could.

The footage looks fantastic, thanks for linking it, the only concern I have is when the guy asked "so about the controls, is it like high kick, low kick?" and Boon's response was to the tune of a bunch of stuff about them making every character unique in the way they're played. That starts to sound a bit like they're ditching the standard control setup, which could work depending on how the impliment it, or could go completely wrong.

If they can manage to do to gameplay what happened with street fighter where SFIV plays like SFIICE and make it play like MK2 with standard controls, I'll be a very happy gamer. I'm with most folks here, it looks like it'd be fantastic in an actual cabinet, though it'd be tricky to make.

It would be so fantastic to see this in an arcade, but the next question would be, where to find an arcade to play the game in.

I know right. the bad part is it won't be anywhere near traditional. it'll be yet another next-gen arcade game with a fucking widescreen HD plasma screen. that's what I don't dig on with any of the new games now.

oh well, at least we have the previous 4 games still.

I still love that wooden smell emanating from the inside of my Midway cabs. :004_ssmile:

this game looks awesome though. welcome change. and that's coming from someone that loved the PS2 games (never played the MK vs. DC one though, and have no desire to, ever.)

few things here. I think the controls will be:

HP, LP, HK, LK, Block

no run button. when boon was saying each character would be unique, I think he just means each attack will be different for each character, unlike the old MK games where standard HP,LP,HK,LK were pretty much the same for everyone. the buttons will be the same though.

I'm planning on getting a MK control panel working with this. I already have a 2 sf4 te fightsticks panel working in a MK4 cabinet I hacked to shit. it's a mame/x360 cabinet with swappable control panels.

I think 360 is easier to get to an arcade cabinet, you just get the vga cord, get some crappy pc speakers, wire those into the cab speakers and put the subwoofer, MK isn't complete without some nice bass for the music and the sound effects. in the cabinet and you're good to go. I have the vga from the pc and x360 on a vga switchbox that also has audio, so 1 button press moves me from PC to 360.

Use a VGA monitor and an XBOX 360

Just pop a 27 inch EYGO monitor in a MK cabinet and use the VGA adapter for the 360! It will look great and clean! That is what I am doing, but I am doing it for Street Fighter IV. Of course I would rather have a Taito Type X2 in a Vewlix cabinet like it is meant to be played.

It even does horizontal and vertical orientation too!
