I have a Mario Bros. machine and I would like to replace the monitor. Is it possible to use any of the monitors from Happ Controls with it?

Sorry if this seems like a noob question. I looked in the archives and did not find any message talking about replacing the monitor completely, only capping it.

Well, you cant buy new 19" monitors from Happ anymore

Second, Nintendo boards send reverse signals, the opposite of the industry standard

The monitors originally in the Nintendos expect this signal and display the screen colors correctly.

If you want to use a monitor that is not a Nintendo orginal monitor, you will need an inverter board to change the signals

New Chineese made monitors can be bought, but working used Sanyo EZ-20s (Nintendo) can be found reasonable too.

www.mikesarcade.com sells the inverters

www.arcadeshop.com sells monitors

Im sure others will reply to this question too..

Not only that, but the audio amplifier is on the monitor as well. So, if you replace the monitor, you'll need a seperate audio amp.

And, the isolation transformer in that game puts out 100v, not 120. So, a replacement monitor may or may not operate properly (although, most should).

Why do you want to replace the monitor? Is it missing?

Forgot about the audio amp.. Mikesarcade sells those too though..

The 100v might be a issue for most monitors

Although with a seperate Isolation transformer (if needed for monitor type) you could wire in a regular 120v monitor. Power switch and power cord are easy to get to

The problem I am having is it seems like one of the color guns might be shot. It looks like only red and blue work.

Not sure a cap kit will fix that.

cap kit may fix that.. bad transistor or cold solder joint possible too

I have a Zaxxon that red most often doesn't work.. I'm sure it's a cold solder joint..

Could be a cold solder joint, cracked trace, bad connection, bad neckboard pot, bad amplifier transitor... Lots of possibilities. I've personally never seen a Sanyo tube with a bad gun, those seem to be very long lived picture tubes. Not that it isn't possible - just that I haven't seen one.

I would start by wiggling the video connector at the chassis while someone wathces the screen, see if the color flickers back. Also check the components on the neckboard in the green circuit. Probably just have to pull the chassis and go over things real good. Quick test for the neckboard transistors is to swap the green one with one of the others and see if you regain green but lose the other color.

I'd check to see if you have an inverter board installed first. If so, bypass it. You should still cap it, but that may solve your color issue.
