new monitor chassis installed - hantarex polo 25"

ok guys, i got a new chassis for my hantarex polo 25" monitor from 8liners. we installed it and hooked up all the wires. after playing with all the pots and the remote board for awhile, we cant get the screen to fit properly...i know, this sounds pretty amateur...but, well, i am. however, the pot has been turned all the way down to shrink the screen horizontally as much as possible and the other pots have been adjusted...look at the names at the top of the screen (see attached pic)...the names are cut off. no matter what we do...we just cant get the picture to fit.

is this a problem with the new monitor chassis? what could this possibly be? thanks as always,

joe

On the new chassis there should be a width range adjustment jumper wire that can connect to one of two posts.

One post will be silkscreened (N) narrower and the other is (W) wider.

With the power off, unplug the jumper wire from the (W) wider post and instead plug it into the (N) narrower post.

This adjustment sets the range of the width coil circuitry. Your picture should be narrower and you can adjust the width coil for a better size of the width.

Working on both at the same time. found an old harness and trying to hook both if them up following the diagram you guys gave me. I accidentally hooked up the sync to the wrong port, got late, and I called it a night. It's getting there...I'll let ya know. Thanks for checking back up!

K, in the garage and switched the jumpers. The screen was made super wide because of the jumper switch. We tried both and the screen is still cut off on both aides using both jumpers. We hooked up two Jamma boards to see if it was a dipswitch setting...nope. Bad chassis?

adjustments

i adjusted every pot i could...on the chassis and the remote board. which one is the width coil and how would i adjust that (im thinking that is the tall cylindrical coil somewhere in the center just under the tube)?

That tall white coil next to the aluminum heat sink is the width coil. May be marked H size.

Use a plastic width coil adjustment hex tool to adjust it. Do NOT use an Allen wrench.

finding the tool

well, as long as you dont think its a bad chassis i wont try and overnight this tool. otherwise, ill return it to 8liners.

im hoping radio shack has the tool, but i doubt it...however, you never know. i was searching other posts and it seems other people were havivng the same problem.

You acually can use an allen wrench or pocket screwdriver, you just need to be very careful using them, and use them while the monitor is off and cool. Otherwise youll heat up the coil and destroy it. But yeah, if you have the means, use the proper tool.

plastic vs metal allen wrench

so ive been looking for this plastic allen wrench to adjust the coil. i cant find it anywhere.

whats the reasoning behind not using a metal allen wrench? if i try to use the metal one what would i have to be careful of?

You cant use a metal tool while the monitor is on, or youll burn up the coil and melt the plastic. Ive had to replace a few coils for that reason. If you dont want to buy the special tool, you can use a pocket screwdriver or allen wrench, you just need to turn the game off and allow time for the coil to "cool down" before adjusting, and then youll basically have to repeat the process each time until your happy with the results.

Bob Roberts sells the tool you need: Plastic Alignment Tool Kit $4.00

cool down period...how long?

gotcha...well as long as the monitor is off i can do it...great! how long do you recommend i wait to make sure the monitor cools down? this way i can turn it on...adjust it, turn it on adjust it, you get the idea. thanks again!

joe

It will cool within seconds, but it can seem like an eternity if you wait for it to cool every time, and if you are discharging the monitor every time, its even longer. Unless your in a hurry, I'd buy the tool and wait. It will come in handy for future projects anyway.

Whatever you do, DONT FORCE IT. If it starts feeling tight when you turn it, stop, you might end up breaking it.

I don't think the width coils on these Wei Ya chassis can be adjusted. On the last two that I ordered the ferrite core in the width coil was smooth on top with no socket for an adjustment tool. The best that can be done with these is to adjust the width on the remote board and have the jumper on the narrow setting.
