OK, I'll share a story that happened a few months back.
Guy first asks me about some drive images for a system. I spend a couple hours finding them (had to search a few external HD's to figure out where I stored them), then have to copy them to a memory card to mail to him (he didn't have any place I could upload the files to). All I charged him was $10 to cover the card and shipping.
Then he asks me if I have any "spare parts" for this game system. I say "yes, I believe I do... I'll search for them this weekend and let you know what I have". I spend another couple hours hunting through my basement (which is an overpacked mess) to gather all the stuff, injuring myself in the process! An ARII fell off a chest-high shelf, with a corner of the heatsink landing on my ankle, making a nice puncture wound! Right on my ankle bone... holy fuck did that hurt. The bruise lasted 2-3 weeks, and I still have a scar!
Anyway, I send the guy a list of the parts I found and ask him to make an offer on anything he might want. All he had to do was make a reasonable offer. Actually, it could have been any offer.... I just wanted the shit gone at this point. He doesn't want to make an offer, and asks for prices. :rolleyes2: So I spend some more time figuring out what the stuff is currently going for. Then I throw some sweet-deal prices at him (like less than half what they should be). It takes him several days to respond. He decides he doesn't want any of it.
I'm too old for this shit.... Never again.

Yep, those heat sinks bite - HARD.

Wait until you are on blood thinners. Epic bruises that last $*&&&&$^@ forever.

I'm a new member here, but a vet in a couple other forums on topics unrelated to arcade. I understand the frustration of trying to help people who are incompetent and/or ungrateful.

It's actually pretty frustrating to not have a lot to contribute, but my skills and parts inventory are somewhat limited.

If anyone has good ideas on how those of us less well endowed with arcade wisdom can contribute, please let me know.

So far, the best I've been able to do is check the trading/wanted forums here when I see anything rare or odd come up for sale in my local ads in the hopes I can connect someone to a part they need.

A massive thanks to those who have helped me so far - and for those who would rather wait to see if I last a year, I understand that perspective to!

'73 Coronet Custom!
Complete with the black vinyl Landau top too.
Was that a Cornet or Polara?
At that point in my life I could comfortably lay down on the bench seat in the back.

Wound up being very convenient for the hobby I found AFTER video games and bmx blood-letting. 😉

Yeah, I remember those. Good looking front clip - reminds me of the Challenger.

Be yourself. Unless you are an ass. Then just be kind. General bantering will let us know who you are and what kind of person you are.

I had a guy on here ask me about an old ad for a frogger pcb. I told him it sold but I might have another but I would have to dig through my stuff and look. After a few hours of searching through my piles of endless crap stashed everywhere I find one. I then move a bunch of cabs so I can pull my frogger out of the lineup to test it. It works great so I message him back and let him know I found one. He says great he will take it sends me his address for shipping. I send him my info for payment, box up the pcb and patiently wait for payment. It never comes and he doesn't respond to me when I message him,
Totally just ghosts me.
He really just wanted to take it.

Because I know how to read and listen to everyone hear complain about FB. And when I did use FB, I never once got someone to come out and get anything, even when it was listed as FREE.

CL has been my best avenue, but the younger people do not use it. CL is a dying site too.
I've actually had good with CL lately. All the flakes have moved to FB so typically the people on CL are serious.

My question was more a joke than anything. Not to be taken seriously 👍
