Hi, my name is Steve and I'm a nostalgia addict.
<Pause for the requisite "Hi, Steve" response>
I am the not-so-proud owner of a Seeburg LS1 "Spectra" model jukebox that I purchased on ebay in 2001 and have never heard play.
The seller represented it as "having worked recently" and said there was a pin or something missing that he believed would resolve the issues. He was stationed in Hawaii and the jukebox was at his sister's home in Kansas City.
The wife and I went to KC to pick it up and brought it home, and after a few frustrating attempts and some e-mails to Tony Miller, I had to set it aside. My wife bought me the manuals combo from Victory Glass, but I am just not astute enough with 60's era electronics theory to make heads or tails of it.
A couple of years back, a radio and electronics guy I know came to the house and looked at it with me. He took the manuals and a spare SSCC I had acquired with him to test it out. He's never brought them back, though in his defense, he stays very busy. I spoke with him today and he is going to locate them and return them to me.
One bright spot: I was on FreeCycle the other day and saw a post from someone who was looking for computer parts (something I have in great supply) so I called him. When he came over, he found out that I had the jukebox and that it needs repair. He told me that he used to be a Bally/Midway tester, and that he had also worked for amusement companies in the past.
We opened up the unti and plugged it in. I showed him the "scans twice" problem, and he crawled around and looked. He found two wires from the selector solenoid that had been cut (one was tan, the other was tan with a black stripe. Just behind that is a black square piece with two blade connectors that had female connectors on them, but no wires coming form them. He believes those are supposed to be connected to the missing wires. He also recognized that the entire assembly is out of alignment and that the reset lever isn't working. He said that seems to be the "missing pin" that the seller spoke of.
Anyway, this guy is doing odd jobs right now while looking for work, so I told him I would get the manual back from the other man and give him a call.
I had just about given up on this jukebox, to the point that I was considering building a dwjukebox-based computerized unit for my home and getting rid of the Spectra, so it was a real blessing to have this guy walk up to my front door.
It was for that reason that I searched today and found this forum and the Phonoland one as well. It encourages me to think that I might get this jukebox up and running soon. I'll post progress and pictures as we move forward.
Thanks for the forum!
Steve
