Hello. I typically collect Sport Cards and buy abandonded Storage Units. Ended up with this yesterday. My 1st! Won it for $80, and I'm pretty excited. Always kinda wanted one as these we the reason I was quarterless as a kid. Not the best at being a handy man but as life goes on I learn as I go. Found this forum to be a wealth of knowledge and plan on hanging around to help get this project going. Here's what I know and what I need to do, so far. If you have any tips or advise, please share.

Thanks, Donovan

This is a Donkey Kong Jr Conversion.

Needs-
Sound turns on for a second then nothing
Pic is B/W and lines, nothing else
Marquee light needs installed and bulb
Replaced both locks as keys were anywhere but in my hand
Top Marquee bracket missing
Coin slot 'cover" missing
New T Molding (found online)
Patch/Paint & new stickers
2 wires by coin slot disconnected

Side art from Phoenixarcade
T-molding and I believe the marquee bracket from chomping quarters
CPO from quarter arcade
And the rest you can get from Mikes arcade.

I would get some new buttons from mikes arcade, 2 blue and 2 orange. Or wait for the Nintendo button repos to be released

Also most likely a particle board cabinet. Not really one you want to learn cab restore work on but it doesnt look all that bad so maybe just a fresh coat of paint. Good to see another one in the hobby! :D

Consider getting a high score save kit too.

Any pics of inside the cabinet from rear? Is the game board pcb still there in the cage? Chances are good it has a Sanyo EZ-20 monitor

Yeah...particle board. Bottom corner is chewed off. Unsure if I can built that back up or need to make a new side. Hopefully not the latter. Read about the High Score Save kit and definately planning on getting one of those. The PCB is there. I'll take some inside pics when I get home from work.

I was told this is not a conversion. Hense the missing side art under Mario. Sound right?

Here's some inside pics. The 2 loose wires from the coin mech., cant seem to find where they are supposed to go.

Definitely a conversion kit, was previously a DKjr.

The orange and brown wires are for the coin mech on the right, which is missing parts.

Mario Bros authorized sticker was supposed to go on the bezel, on the top left area

Monitor is a Sanyo EZ-20, cap kit does a lot for them

Much appretiated.

Nice.. The sound issue is a simple chip replacement on the pcb.. I had that happen on my dkjr.

It looks like a conversion because I believe that Mario bros was a wide body.. But then someone put a new Nintendo tag on the cabinet (tma1-up)

Another step in the right direction. Thank You!

The CPO that QA has is for the wide body. As far as I know, they don't offer a conversion CPO :( I ordered one from ArcadeOverlays.com, but was unimpressed with the colors on it and will be returning it. I'm now waiting for one to come in from GameOnGrafix.com. I am posting pics of everything in this thread here.

Side art from PA is highly recommended. Check out some pics of mine here.

Nice pickup! You've come to the right place

If the game powers up at all and the monitor shows something, that's a good start. When it comes to fixing arcades, Klov and Youtube are the right places to go.

I'm no expert, but the best idea is to start with the easiest things (adjusting monitor pots to see if you get anything, checking that connectors are plugged in, checking that the cab has green grounding wires connected to various metal parts in the cab). Process of elimination!

I do agree that you are likely going to need a cap kit. Bob Robert's sells a Deluxe cap kit (for the audio and video caps). Might as well do both if you take the monitor out (do lots of research for monitor work).

Other than the electronic repairs, there several easy & inexpensive things you can do make it look 100 times better:

Cleaning (free!):
- Take a shop vac to the inside
- Magic eraser/Novus 2 for control panel cleaning/shining
- Novus the viewing area of the bezel for removing light scratches
- Use a light cleaner on the cab itself
- Wipe down the inside wires, cage, etc when unit is unplugged (Don't touch the anode cup...)
- Remove, clean buttons with soap/water
- Take apart, clean, oil joysticks

Parts:
- T-Molding! - Are the grooves for molding centered or off-set? (Chomping Quarters has "True Flat" T-Molding for both types)
- Cap Kit
- I 2nd the idea of New Buttons - I personally like the repro buttons from Mike's Arcade, but lots of people prefer using originals. It looks like one of your player buttons has a replaced plunger already and another is a complete replacement.

Thanks. Found your thread over the weekend and saved it to my favorites. Good info. Surprised at the amount of parts that are remade/NOS for these.

I've rebuilt (just cosmetic) 2 old gas pumps for my bosses and did a little work on a Bell Superman Phone Booth but this will be by far the most fun.

I find it funny. My kids and I have almost every game system. We get this and I would think the wife would say ok that's enough..but oddly she now kinda wants a game room. I think our love just grew stronger. lol

Yea I forgot they only have the wide body cpo. My bad!

Finally got my head in the back of the cab. Found this. It's extra as I have a door and a new one ordered (from this board) as mine has a hole in it. I'm missing a electrical box thing from one side of my coin slots. Unsure if I can use parts from this.

But my question of the day is where does this go? Found alot of pics of Mario Cabs on the pouside and wiring diagrams etc but none that I needed to see where this part goes. On the neck of the tube?

It's a cover for the flyback on the monitor chassis, somewhat important. You'll want to learn how to discharge the monitor before you try to re-install it.
