I had this lead for months on a dead R-type in a VS machine body. It needed to be restored/fixed so the guy sent it to a good home... ME

It was the bargain price of $60

He had it for many years. It's dead w/ no monitor glow. Degauss buttons seemed to work but I wasnt getting anyting after I coined it up also. It may not be a simple fix, I'm afraid. I'll be digging into it tonight, but will probably just swap in a spare XM monitor I have.

The base was missing the back piece so I'll have to cut one for that. I think the wheels were bolted to that also cause It otherwise has no castors. Lucky I have a spare pair from a parted MB.

Nice get!! Mask your sideart and roll on some Rustoleum semi gloss and it'll be set. Minus the T molding of course. I guess you could wait with the rest of us on the black offset. I hate even looking at my R-Type without it's molding

Nintendo's cabinets use the monitor for sound. So even if you aren't hearing a coin-up sound doesn't mean the board it dead.

Yep the back piece of the base is where the t-nuts are imbedded that the bolts for the wheels screw into.

Great game and you should be able to convert that grey vs. cab to the proper black pretty easily with black adhesive vinyl after performing all nec cab repairs. Or you can do what I did and mask the sideart and roll a couple coats of Rustoleum stain black onto the grey. Rich has the side art now, so no worries there. Great looking machine when it's all restored and sparkling:

My sideart is in decent shape, does he have the CPO's?

Nice looking cab Prairied1ll0, R-Type is one of my favorites.

Phet - SHOWOFF... but this is the one time where being a pic whore is actually a good thing when I'm trying to rebuild the base and some nintendo castors on there.

Yeah yours looks great. I may just strip the sides and restore it as black. I dunno as it's not exactly a keeper machine but the deal was one I couldn't pass and I wanted to see if I can do some monitor swapping on this one. There's some light R-TYPE burn on the tube however. That plan is out.

I am trying to fix it so that it can live on and then I'll figure out if mine is the right home for it or another.
