New leak prove Billy Mitchell is a fraud!?!?

I take my shits extremely seriously. I treat them as a spiritual experience.

It simply proves that polarizing drama gets attention. Admit it, how many people read the headlines on the Hollywood mags at the grocery store checkout, when we are old enough that we don't even have a clue who most of those people are they are baggin' on.

If you guys really gave a crap about which of Walter's friends that came to Ottumwa were amazing all around game players, you'd be talking about Eric Ginner, Ben Gold, and Steve Harris. You don't because they don't give any polarized schtick for you guys to feed upon.

Interestingly, probably one of the best gamers then and now that plays at a level of savante skill on a ton of really difficult arcade games is....Dwayne Richard. Why do you guys not go on and on about him....because he isn't marketing himself every day of every week like Walter and Billy. Plus he doesn't have the grandiose larger than life Darth/Dirty Hairy schtick going down.

As far as judging any from a movie, and "guessing" at how the editor's did or didn't cut it.....man, haven't you ever been tricked at the start of a commercial on these reality TV shows. they totally make you think the person is gonna do some doosh move or another, then it comes back from commercial break and the full discussion isn't anything like what they edited. Suspending disbelief is what us as consumers excel at, Hollywood counts on it to keep our attention.

All those guys, including Dwayne, I'd probably enjoy having a beer with. But I still stand by my opinion and perception of the film. I don't think they went down there to make a fictional movie. I think they went to film all these arcade dudes and stumbled upon this bizarre collection of personalities.

That's exactly right.
And even Billy will tell you that some of his tendencies at personality, they picked up on and amplified out of context.
And I've said before, they didn't orchestrate that, the producers did it unbeknownst to them and they had to figure out how to handle it on a personal level once it happened.
Billy turned it into his public schtick, but he also has matured over the years from 17yrs old to nowadays. So it is two separate things. The people above who have met him as an arcade event ambassador are meeting a genuinely nice guy who says cleverly polarizing BS off-the-cuff

He and Walter are extremely guilty of needing/wanting/craving non-stop center of attention. Just like any Diva. That's what you guys seem to enjoy from the personas they have become.

One item that I have given him crap about is when he was on some interview for TV and said playing a perfect pac was on the level of an astronaut going to the moon. W T F......I've pointed out that is some stupid $#!+ to even say considering those guys were decorated war heroes and risked their Friggin lives for such endeavors.
So yah, even me can get pulled into being irritated by attention seeking diva BS.

I've had lunch with Billy.

That was enough.

I think for me, more than anything, it's the blatant idolizing of these guys, that weirds me out. I don't want to sound hypocritical for talking about them and then bitching when others keep talking about them.....but.....I think it's pretty fucking weird to get Walter Day tattoos or Billy Mitchell posters autographed for your walls, or anything else of the sort.

He's just a dude, who happened to be good at a couple games.

Walter really did not do anything to further the industry as it was or contribute to the downfall. He had a home for people who gave a shit about high scores (I'd say 99% of people who ever went into an arcade didn't and just enjoyed the games). Nothing more.

People aren't still into these games or the scene because of those guys.

MAME is what I figure stirred the retro re-awakening. Walter just latched onto the hype and then social media was his perfect bride for guerrilla daily marketing.

The idolizing thing is creepy. That is Walter's motivation. Remember he is a 60s hippie, then an early initiate into the Maharishi thing which is all about having leaders and a flock.
You'll find plenty of references to the Cult of TG. Collecting people is a long time thing...he collected millions of business cards, then year books and newspapers in the past, too.

I keep resplashing this phrase from an editorial in an old video games magazine pdf I found online. Jarvis said...the arcades let a kid go from $#!+ to god on a quarter.
And Walter exploited the livin hell out of that mentality for wayward oddball people.
He is still doing it to this day, except does trading cards for any topic that crosses his path. if you go to the walter day collection site, you'll see he makes local fairfield, iowa people famous on the cards, amongst other topics.

There are plenty of people that either got into the hobby or bought just one machine solely because of King of Kong.

I personally got into the hobby after watching Chasing Ghosts. I developed quite an 'art' collection, the games were just a bonus.

Billy is an EXTREMELY powerful and persuasive personality, but you've got to be careful with that sort of approach

based on his past, things can go wrong very quickly ...
