ok i regret posting this thread honestly i just don't like the guy after seeing king of kong he seemed like a jerk

Any time you come across Twin Galaxies/Walter originated topics you'll always find it to be polarized and inciting drama. That's how guerrilla marketing works.

If you just like the topic of excelling at the game of PacMan, I'd recommend heading this direction.
Tim B. is a super nice guy, a well-versed Pac master and he wrote a light-hearted entertaining book about the game. He is well worth supporting in the industry.
https://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Game-Confessions-Pac-Man-Junkie/dp/1612250149

If you are really wanting to know who knows Pacman at an intuitive level that goes to a whole different level of awareness of the game's minutia you'll need to head toward a master player named Aart van Vleet. He plays a number of games at a savante level.

Whenever this topic comes up I have to chuckle because if you were part of this original craze, the world had what 300 to 400 hundred thousand pac machines, and every kid with a quarter had patterns to run the 9th key maze. The 8-bit arcade world has never seen anything as prolifically on fire as the pac craze, before or since except maybe Space Invaders. And someone comes along suggesting they were better than the likely billion plus people on the planet who put a quarter in the game. whatevs.....

you don't want to meet his alter-ego ...

(the internet never fails to amuse and bewilder me ... i thought to myself "Millie Bitchell". ran a Google Image Search, and there she was. life is truly terrifying in the modern age. :))

You formed an opinion of someone from a movie where people were acting and Billy agreed to be the "bad guy"?

You need to rethink your process of evaluating people.

Billy is a really nice guy.

I have a neighbor named Billy Mitchell. Great guy.

He has a Bad Dudes arcade in his garage. He'd never heard of the other Billy Mitchell until I mentioned it. lol

Yah I met him a few times and he was always a good dude... if you see him at shows he has time for everybody.

We stood around and talked hot sauce and I told him I liked it way hotter then his sauce they carry in stores..

he actually dropped what he was doing and ran up to his hotel room and got me a bottle of his off the market super hot and gave it to me free.

Didn't somebody on KLOV take a picture pooping next to Billy Mitchell a couple years ago?

Yeah...That isn't weird at all. :p But that proves he's just a regular guy that poops with his American flag shoes on like the rest of us.

Somebody needs to repost that....I feel like that will make this thread more fun.

He's actually really cool and very personable from what I've experienced.

Keep in mind that King of Kong was as much a scripted movie as it was a "documentary".

Its funny how that movie has altered peoples perception of him, yet at the same time pushed him more into the lime light.
A group of us were at Banning last year for Arcade Expo and him and Walter were both there taking pictures with people, signing autographs etc. Got my picture taken with them both, chatted for a while, bought some hot sauce etc. They were both supper cool. Its fun to show the picture to some of my non arcade friends because most immediately recognize Walter and Billy from King of Kong.

Anyhow, while we were sitting in the cafeteria area a woman saw him walk by and said something like "there goes that Donkey Kong jerk". The guy next to her said something like "well have you ever met or talked to him?". She of course replied "no" and "I don't need to, he was a jerk in that movie".

Perception is a strange thing.

I bet it sounds like refried beans being "poured" from a can when the guy in this video sits down in, and gets out of, his chair.

Billy and Walter are both really nice guys, walter spent a lot of time helping guys find twin galaxy cards they were missing because they had a table full of cards for free, it was fun.

if you mean a few years back. I'm the one that dumped all those things on the table. We had done a free for all grab table at the pinball expo just the month before and people went crazy digging through them. had all the pinball dev cards in there so it was a big focus.

It didn't seem like the Houston crowd appreciated the motley organization as much. ;)

thats the one, i remeber you being involved with that now good job. my avatar is from that night.

Personally I don't see how anybody can call his skills into question, when he set the Donkey Kong record, live in an arcade a few years back, then set the Donkey Kong Jr. world record in the same day at the same arcade.

I mean, that's skills I've never heard of anybody else having. Two sought after, highly competitive world records in 1 day, and this was after the internet and the modern craze with everybody attempting it?

He lost both of them soon after of course... but still that may be the greatest event ever in arcade record playing....

...Billy agreed to be the "bad guy"....

That's right - he agreed to portray himself like that. Nobody should be surprised that people think that's how he really is, so why bother chastising people who do? Let him deal with it.

Billy Mitchell's back-and-forth with Steve Wiebe over the DK high scores is filled with controversy. Here's but one of many threads on TG where the issue has been discussed: http://www.twingalaxies.com/showthr...ll-Score-1-062-800/page16?p=932395#post932395

Actually, he nor Walter knew the plot twist the producers had in mind.
They were clever enough to see glimpses of what they COULD do with the content they had recorded and they ran with it. That was not consulted or taken under advisement with Billy/Walter.

Once it happened Billy had to figure out how to handle it, so he made lemonade from lemons and turned it into his public schtick. and it works. Everyone loves to hate the bad guy, and he isn't really a bad guy so it makes for fun outtings at events. They go to 2 a month at least, don't they?

If you see Billy and get a chance to just chill, get him talking about what really went on behind the scenes post KoK, the story is wilder than you guys could imagine. Hollywood does drama proper, that's for sure.

-----------Here is some extra side content-----------
For the Nibbler doc. When we got interviewed then the project took another 9years, we were scared that they'd do up a KoK twist. There was a LOT of apprehension and email questions over those years. Seklir and Kinzy promised they wouldn't do that and they held their promise. whew. Even with that you guys still perceive that Dwayne was a bad guy with the broken pcb..... the public loves a good hollywood story.
Any one of you could end up being interviewed for a retro documentary, so be careful and mindful, once you sign that release form there is no turning back!

This is old news.

What was referred to as a "perfect game" in the early 80's is referred to now as a "perfect eat" game, meaning the player got every prize and ate every possible monster. I believe the late Randy Tufts was the other player they refer to as having done it.

It was some time later that the 9 regenerating dots on the split screen were discovered leading to the knowledge of the highest possible score.

I believe Chris Ayra additionally claims that the highest score including the 9 regenerating dots was accomplished later in the 80's. Billy was just the first to do it publicly.

Q: Is Billy Mitchell a fraud because he falsely claims the first perfect game on Pac-Man?

A: No, that's not the reason Billy Mitchell is a fraud.

since everyone is convened, let's really drive this stake in the ground good.

Here is another example of guerrilla marketing that you guys likely didn't even know about.

If you read this article you would think that Twin Galaxies was truly the center of the universe.
http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com...rson-to-become-world-champion-at-video-gaming

But what you don't read in that article is that is purely a pitch for TG, little based on historical facts.
There had been major Pacman championships where people won arcade machines, there had been Defender championships such as the 7-11 tournament, Space Invaders had massive tournaments and championships.....etc etc etc.... even Eric Ginner had won a big Centipede championship in 1981 well before Ben came along to Ottumwa (found this reference on google- http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com...rson-to-become-world-champion-at-video-gaming )

So why were those not part of the Guinness storyline? Because they were before TG and Walter, therefore the story couldn't be woven as TG-centric.

......You all starting to understand how this marketing ruse worked/works????????
Just how it is, it isn't even important to the world at large. whatever. let it be and let it go, eh.

Nope. The Donkey Kong Junior record had already been broken by another player, Mark Kiehl, with a 1.3M+ score (Bill Mitchell's new score that day was 1,270,900, still his verified best) and the Kiehl submission was already pending when Mitchell broke both of the posted DK and DKJr records. I'll leave it up to the rest of you to decide if TG purposely dragged their feet on the verification of Kiehl's score. From the shit I've personally endured with my own record scores with that organization, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they did.

Edit: To be clear, I'm not calling Bill Mitchell's skills into question, just clarifying that he didn't really break both DK and DKJr records in one day; he just thought he did. Bill is quite skilled on a number of iconic golden era arcade games such as DK, DKJr, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, and Burgertime. Bill is also the former WR holder on Centipede, which IMO is the one that is actually really impressive. The rest of them are relatively slow moving in comparison. With Centipede you get a max of six extra lives in storage, very high speed game play, and no break whatsoever.
