Hey all!

I just started collecting literally last week so I thought I'd sign up as now I've got the bug.

My first machine is a Mortal Kombat II, which is my favorite MK game. I was pretty happy to get ahold of it, brings me back to my youthful days at the community center game room. I would sneak off when my mom would drag me to my brother's sports stuff and play Mortal Kombat II and Primal Rage. haha. I'm kind of a new to all the repair aspects but thanks to all you seasoned vets I've been reading and picking up some tips to repair this baby back to its prime shape.

Anyway, hope to get to know you all and get some more machines in the future, in addition to swapping tips, stories, and whatnot.

Nice to meet you all. ^^

Welcome to the sickness/disease/the machine.. and i'm sure its been called many other things to.

Nice pickup there. Gotta love a dedicated machine over a conversion/hacked up one.

Number 1 of many many more to come! It won't be long before your out of room.

Thanks guys for the welcome guys! I got it from a reseller who had a few other MK machines. One was a conversion and wasn't very nice, the other was a dedicated, pulled out of a partially burned building. So sad, it worked, but needed more love than I would be able to give at my current repair ability.

Haha yeah. My wife is already not happy, that I'm like "Oh, next I'd like to get machine XXX or whatever!" She's like, "You just got this one and you already want another one?!" haha.

The monitor squishes a bit at the bottom. I think it may just be the vertical adjustment, but I'm not 100% sure. I have a screwdriver which is labeled T20 looks Torx-ish but doesn't work with the screws, so I've not been able to flip open the CP yet and try to adjust it.

if you open the control panel..you adjust it with yer fingers..lol..or a small flat head screwdriver..it's slotted... what you might need is a recap..but then again you might just need an adjustment... in either case..WELCOME TO THE GOOFYEST PLACE ON EARTH :D

You are now a Amusement machine Mental case like the rest :)

welcome Brother !

Feel Free to pick Our Brains if ya need something :)

END OF LINE.

Haha thanks for the welcome, yeah I can't buy anything else for a while, and it's killing me. haha.

Yeah I thought I had the right screwdriver to undo the screws and flip up the control panel, but it seems I need an actual Torx. I appreciate your knowledge on the potential diagnosis. I hope it's not the caps, but we'll see when I do finally get the CP open.

Welcome aboard, and nice pickup!! I'm still waiting for a mk2 to come up for a good price in my area.

Thanks for the welcome!

I hope you get one in your area sometime soon. I'll try and keep an eye out too if I see any while browsing around.

Sounds like your going at the control panel deal all wrong. Open the top coin door, reach up and feel around (or try to look with a flashlight) for some clips. There is probably two of them, one for each side. Flip those clips open and the control panel should be released. Pull on one of the joysticks and you should now have access to everything.

More then likely otherwise it's a security bit that your needing. Just head out to a local hardware store and you should be able to find a cheap set.

Everything he just said, I been in and out of a mk2 before, it is security screws like he said and the latches are on the far left and right if I remember right. Welcome aboard! This forum has been great for me and I have been able to pickup a lot of knowledge just reading a few posts here and there. Best of luck with the wife too, they don't always understand the obsession :)

Thanks for all the help guys I'll see if I can find those clips. I actually do have a set of security bits, but they don't do anything haha. They match the diameter and shape of the 6 pointed star, but either they're just crappy or the screws are really tight. I couldn't get anywhere with them. They're from a cheap off brand set my Dad got me so that could be why.

EDIT:
Ok, got it open and adjusted the monitor adjustment board. Still no change, so it must be a cap problem. Lame. Haha. It's still fine to play so I'm not going to bother it atm with a cap kit. It's just Midget MK haha. I'll worry about touchup painting, replacing the coin return lights, the marquee light, and a few other things before I recap or replace the monitor.
