Hello KLOVers. My name is Mike and I'm addicted to playing classic arcade games and pinball.

After many years of wanting to buy a game, I finally did. A Donkey Kong Junior is now beautifully functioning in my living room.

The game plays well, cab and monitor are in great condition (side art, controls, marquee etc) and from what I can tell everything seems to be original with the exception of it being modded with a button to allow free play.

To All the O.G. KLOVers please forgive my lack of terminology and experience. Before I bought this game, I've never been inside one.

Now for the newbie questions:

#1 When I power on the game, there is a hum that hums through out the entire game play, I can still hear all the game sounds etc. Any ideas?

#2 The power outlet inside the game (where the monitor and marquee plug in ) works fine I've tested both. However I cant get the game and the marquee to work at the same time. I plugged them both in to a wall outlet and they both work, but not at the same time. Am I on crazy pills??

This is my first of hopefully many posts here. Unless I electrocute myself.

Thanks ahead of time for your input.

Mike

the hum is nintendo. Its gonna be there forever pretty much.

The marquee shouldnt be plugged into a wall. My dk jr had an outlet in the cabinet I believe, but its not a standard outlet (dont quote me on this)

Welcome to the forums!

New Guy

Welcome,

You will have no problem getting an answer on here. Everyone is very cool.

I don't have an answer for you myself, odd that they can be plugged in seperate but not together. All my marquees are hard wired not plug ins to the power supply.

But I'm sure these guys on here will help you out.

Again welcome

Steve

welcome to the board!!!! Post some pics of your dk jr or it didnt happen!!! ;)

i wouldnt say everyones pretty cool, i'd give it 50/50.

there are a lot of douchebag know-it-alls on here that dont like dealing with greenhorns.

If someone starts shit with you, just brush it off and hit the ignore button.

If the marquee is original, it runs on 100V, not 110/120. The monitor also runs on 100V. You should have a 2 position standard looking outlet with a bakelite face. The marquee plugs into one socket, the monitor into the other. Never plug either into the wall.

Headphones or earplugs fix the hum. Yes, we need to see pictures. Consider it your 'initiation' or hazing...

Welcome aboard. ;)

Welcome and enjoy the glorious hum that gives Nintendo it's audible charm.

I actually never was bothered by the Ninty hum. Some people have mentioned caps on the speaker wires (IIRC) to reduce it?

Anyway, glad to see another person in the hobby. I wonder how long before your collection increases 10x? Im giving you 6 months :D

Welcome, welcome, welcome!

Please provide some pics of the marquee assembly, monitor, and the inside of teh cabinet. That will help us help you.

DK Jr. was my first game too. What a great feeling. :)

Wow this forum moves fast! Thank you to all for welcoming me to the forum. I'm glad there are people who still respect and most importantly still play, repair these games.

I agree, if there are no pics, then it never happened. So here are some pics. SN# is in the 00700's

The power outlet inside the game as you can see in one of the pics has both the monitor and marquee plugged in to it, I only plugged the marquee light into the wall to see if it worked. It does light up.

So, the outlet inside the cab works 100%. I can swap the monitor plug into either socket and it powers up fine.

Q: If the marquee light fixture has been "updated" would the outlet inside the game not be able to power it, because there is a power difference, from whatever light fixture was in there originally?

About the hum, it does not bother me too much. But would like it to be lowered if possible.

Someone told me to replace some caps. On a board inside. I'll try that someday. But for now I'm going to just try and get the marquee issue fixed first.. Baby steps, right?? HA

Also in one of the pics you'll see a close up of a card by the monitor. There is a cable that is not plugged in to the card. I have no idea what it does? Take a look..

Again thank you for be so welcoming.

My wife will be lucky if I wait 6 months!!! I'm guessing 3 tops. I have a Final Blow coming today and a Burger Time I'm working on acquiring..

Thank god, she loves them as much as I do. As long as at some point I get her a pinball...

THANKS
Mike

Congrats! I love DK Jr. You can swap DK, D2K, and DK3 into that cab too.

I know everyone has already said this but it can't be said enough . . NEVER plug that monitor directly into the wall. You'll kill it. That scenario happens over and over and over again (do a search) and I've never seen somebody be able to bring it back. Luckily you just did it with the marquee! Dodged a bullet there.

Hmmm... Another Nintendo guy... From Florida... :D

Yeah, there's a dude in FL that makes everyone suspicious of buying anything Nin-related from there... Can't remember his handle at the moment. He has scammed quite a few members on here, unfortunately.

Lived in Phoenix my whole life... Love it here. Largest small city there is! :D

Well I guess it sucks to be that guy...

I love AZ too, all my family is still there so I visit often. The people and the vibe of AZ are awesome..

Any ideas on why my marquee light is not working with the outlet inside the game?
