Hi all,
I am a total noob as far as arcade machines go! I just purchased a dedicated UMK3 machine for my basement, and it's a total blast. But...I cannot turn on blood, or fatalities! I have been in the diagnostics menu, and tried the dip switches. In the dip switch menu, it says "Blood On" and the setting is "OFF". When I try the dip switch, it then turns to "No Blood" with the setting "ON"! WTF! Similar setting with Violence! How can I get past this? The game isn't as much fun without blood or fatalities, LOL. Hope someone can help! Thanks!

Alex

P.S, I'm really reading some cool stuff on this board! It's making me want to start hobbying around with old machines, haha.

Look out! Another adict on the verge!!

Did you look at the dip switch settings on the board or just in the diagnostics menu? Here are the board settings. Not sure if this helps but I can also take a look at mine when I get home.

Oh, most def! LOL. But, I need to restrain myself! Finances are tight with the new house and all, but surely will be adding another machine to collection!

That's how it starts.. one becomes two.. two becomes four.. It only stops when you literally have no more room to put another one in. If you hang around on these forums you will see some folks post pics of their garage's crammed full.. Self included..

This is not true. I am riding around with a machine in the back of a borrowed pick-up because I have no where to put it. I also have two other machines that have not made it to my house yet. Running out of room is not always a deterrent...

I tried adjusting the switches while in the dip swith diagnostic menu. I could see the values change as I adjusted the switch. Also, I tried flipping the switches while the game was playing, and I saw no change. I've tried to do many fatalities and even the simple pit fatalities and none of them work!

I stand corrected.. lol.. wow man.. just wow..

I don't have UMK3 but could it be that the battery is dead?

welcome aboard! there are 2 dipswitch settings regarding blood and fatalities. you want them to both be OFF, turning them to ON is what turns on the no blood or no fatalities (aka Violence)

make all your settings look like this accordingly.

if need be, you can also try doing a Full Factory Restore under Utilities on the Test Menu, but none of the violence settings are stored in the NVRAM, it's all dipswitch operated.

Thanks, guys!
Mecha, that shot helped alot! Got it all working, and now the blood is a-flowin! LOL. Did an Ermac fatality for good measure! The game just got ALOT more fun, haha! This board is cooool! I'm learning alot piece by piece! Now if I could just get my hands on a Killer Instinct 2 machine, I'd be good to go haha!

glad it worked. yes, MAME is very helpful for things like those, I like how the Midway games had that dipswitch test in it, few times now I've had people have problems figuring out what the dipswitches do and stuff, I just can send them a screenshot from MAME and they're on their way.

this also helps because sometimes there's misprints in the manuals, I've found. or missing information.
