Is there such a thing?? Not too familiar with new geo's. Hence my questions.

Curious if a cab like this can be turned into a 4 slot , something different...or current format just can accept different cartridges, or limited to just the one game. Would love to have a cab that has multiple cartridges, but wonder what the options are with a cab that currently has only one game and marquee.

Thoughts?

From my understanding some only some Neo Geo games were dedicated from my current knowledge are Irritating Maze and SVC Chaos, those are the only two that come to mind. If anything that is just a MVS 4-Slot with a marquee slapped on.

To answer your question yes, the cabinet can be turned into a 4-Slot, matter of fact that cabinet was probably a 4 Slot at one point hence the taller cabinet and speakers at the top.

To accept multiple cartridges you have options in 1-Slot, 2-Slot, 4-Slot and 6-Slot. The most reliable board and one needed for that cabinet would be the 4-Slot. You can find them here and there but they would cost you about $200+ unless you find a deal.

The options of a one cab with one marquee could be... well a 4 slot with 1 game if your lucky. I've seen various combinations of boards inside 2-slots that have a 4-slot, or 4-slot that has a two slot and so on.

To verify this you would have to open the coin door, reach under the control panel and unhook the latches on both sides. If you feel around you can feel the latch and pull it towards you.

Another thing to look out for on this cabinet is to see if it has the Credit LED's (there is a set of 2 under the control panel at the top), EL-Panels at the top for the marquee, EL-Transformer and the Memory Card Reader/Headphone Jacks (these sit right under the control panel).

Goodluck!

That's a factory 4-slot cabinet. Probably got converted to a one slot. Pull that Metal Slug marquee and there should be 4 windows for 4 mini marquees. I highly recommend converting it back. Hopefully the original 4-slot is still there. If not, you can get a good one for $120. I'm guessing your EL panels are gone. I can give you some solutions.

I would say don't bother fixing the el panels. I would imagine its going to be close to $200 for that and it adds so little. I would put some led light strips in there and light all 4.

generally, if you get a neo geo, it will have audio and battery issues. you need to recap the audio and replace the battery.

Grab a 4 slot and then get a multicart or the darksoft multi. put 3 of your favorite games in in it and then use the multi in the 4th to add variety.

there are 2 dedicated versions of the UR 4 slot. the in your pic and one that looks like a standard marquee size.

I've seen dedicated Metal Slugs and also Capcom Vs Snk, and SVC chaos. Neo Geos also came in Dynamo cabs, Big reds were the most common dedicated Neos.

actually right now the best thing to do is buy a 161 in 1 cart (its best to do the mod that fixes the audio (adding two capacitors to the cart)) and then buy unibios version 4. This new unibios version removes all the hacked versions and has its own menu and attract mode that will make your machine into a 100 slot neo. This just came out and is very cool. 161 should cost about 60 dollars and 40 for the unibios.

This is by far the best bang for your buck. If you decide you want to play any rare carts that are not on the 161, there are now two different sd card solutions (with a third on the way). They are not cheap, but definitely cheaper than what some neo carts sell for.

There are now a few videos on youtube about unibios 4 if anyone is interested in seeing what its about.

I can vouch for this. My 2-slot came with a 161-in-1 Cart and it wasn't that bad... but it did not have Windjammers or Magician Lord. So now I am paying for it... literally. :)

Most of the main points were brought up. That cabinet was originally a dedicated 4 slot neo-geo, which would mean it was originally wired MVS and not JAMMA. If it has a single slot MVS board in it now, they either have an MVS->JAMMA adapter, or someone has rewired it for JAMMA instead of MVS (MVS has stereo sound).

The marquee to get back to the four mini marquees probably won't be too bad. As far as the lighting behind it, someone is working on an LED solution that will be much cheaper than the original EL panels (Which I wouldn't recommend to go to for cost reasons). Everything else on there looks to be good shape. Monitor seems to need a recap, but that is reasonable. You will need to open it up (the control panel will unlatch and swing open) and check if it has a 4 slot board or a 1 slot board inside. If it is the 4 slot, it is still wired MVS, so only change out the button colors, recap the monitor, and replace the marquee holder and you are good. If it has a 1 slot with no MVS->JAMMA adapter, then it has been wired for JAMMA (you could easily get a JAMMA->MVS adapter rather than rewire it, and it will then take a 4 slot without issue.

There were several dedicated NeoGeo machines... although most were just the generic neogeo, but as mentioned there were dedicated Samurai Shodown machines with different artwork. Pretty rare though (whitish cabinet).

Thanks guys. I ended up not purchasing it. Really I want a 2 or 4 slot which I wasnt able to find out how this cab was built. Didnt have time to go and see, before he sold it. He does have a hyper neo geo which I havent heard of. Going to look on line and see if that is something that may interest me.

If that cab was under $350 and had a working monitor...

You should have gotten that.

The bi-color neogeo you show aka "big red" are difficuly to find in decent condition.

I would have used one of riddledtv's switchers along with a 4 slot, and a multi card.

The info on the new unibios 100 slot? Never seen that but sounds VERY interesting, the darksoft solution costs what these whole cabs go for with issues.

Which makes it not a solution imho.

The new rpi solution by pcjohn would be the best solution for this cab, plus cheaper and would have save game states for neo-geo games and other games as well.

That little board is a game changer guys.

This cab is heavy and bulky.... But if it had a monitor that could be repaired.... Under 350 this is a no brainer. 250 or less... I would have gone to sell blood plasma to get it.

He kind has a point. Any Big Red in decent condition with a monitor/board is an amazing deal for 350. That is the same price I got mine for and the sideart is in amazing shape given it was on location.

Next time a big red pops up snag it as fast as you can (after inspection of course).

Now that the Raspberry Pi option was brought to the table I forgot I could do that haha... not as fun as collecting mvs cartridges but none the less Neo Geo emulation is near perfect.

Some of the earlier one slot boards had a switch that allowed it to be run in either an MVS cab or JAMMA cab without modding the wiring. I am running a one slot board in an MVS wired cabinet right now.

For the op, the 4 slot tall boy is an awesome cab and IMO the better of the designs. Any dedicated Neo for sub $500 is worth it. So much versatility.

Except that small ass opening to get to the pcb stack.

I do noy have one, but is there an opening in the back to get to the switching powersupply?

I would think there would be a way... Since the coindoor are blocks what the control panel flipping forward allows access to.

I cant even look at one of these things without hearing that Keith Apicary song in my head.

IDK, I find them to be a bit better than the other Koam cabs. The PCB stack isn't hard too access, but damn is the wiring tight. As per the back, the main back panel comes out so like 2ft x3ft panel. Way easier to work on than the standard size Neo. I won't even get into the misery that is the Z-Back.
