A good local buddy of mine stole this at an auction last year, and passed on the savings to me. I'm parting out one side and turning this into a Single.

I've always liked this game, mostly due to it being a little different (I have a VR and Daytona 2) and because it features the FD RX-7 prominently. If you haven't played it, it's basically about drifting. I think whether or not someone likes the game probably has a lot to do with culture. I'm not "big" into Japan pop culture, but I do find it interesting, and I read the story lines in the game and such. I also love import cars, in particular I have a 94 RX-7 which was my dream car and big toy I bought when I got out of college and got my first real job. (I still have it but don't drive it very often). So being able to drive FD's of different colors/models (like a maniac) and then watch the replay afterward really appeals to me. In fact, it's the only reason I ever took note of this game in the past. I'm not "into" drifting but again, I find it kindof interesting. More so than say, Nascar for example.

I'm LOVING this game. I figured out the trick is to do the in-car view... the car visible view will screw you up like crazy. I'm getting used to the handling, which was SUPER hard at first.

Anyway, just had to share!

Wade

i went with some buddies to watch formula drift ar road atlanta almost 2 years ago. from a spectators point of view it was one of the coolest auto events ive ever seen and i dont even like ricer stuff but im pretty bored with the ovals and straight lines at this point.

yes very kool, i lived in atlanta for 2 yrs and went to nopi in 07 and saw the drifting

Its a cool game, but I think the whole deal about Initial D is actually being able to race someone. Parting out 1 side will probably get you all your $$$ back though.

Brian
I had 2 twin(4 total) Initial D3's at one point and ended up parting out 2 because it brought more $$ than trying to sell it outright.

Well, racing someone might be a big deal in the arcade, but it's a waste of space in my house. I think there's more than enough things to do with the game without being able to race someone. No one can ever beat you on your home turf games anyway. :)

Wade

Probably true in a home setting. Might want to hold onto the GD Rom drive and the Naomi 2 boardset though in case you have issues with yours. Sell the rest of the cab.

Heh, 'steal of a deal' is an understatement. If Mark would have quoted me that price back a few months ago when he first told me about them, I would have had some heated 'conversations' with the wife before sadly passing. :D

I guess I have a small tid-bit to add. I helped load these, and was able to get a Crusin USA moved over to my gameroom on a consignment basis on the same truck. It's pretty cool to finally have a sitdown driver in there.

Initial D is a fun game. While racing against someone is cool and all it isn't very fun unless you race against someone who's as good as you are. I think this game is good enough to be a standalone. Beating the CPU and records keeps it interesting enough.

Are you parting out the second unit or just selling it seperately? If you part it out let me know how much you want for the steering wheel.

Man, awesome score! For as common as the Initial D series is in arcades it sure is rare around collector's circles... if I ever somehow had the dough to get one, I would only do it for the 2 player aspect, but hey, that's just me. Incredible... just incredible.

Yeah, how did I leave that out?? I thought I mentioned you by name on this post...

I didn't realize he'd mentioned them to you months ago. I can't believe you didn't tell me about them! Then again... why would you think I'd want more drivers. ;)

I rented a liftgate truck to move this bad boy, and had 3 helpers loading and 2 unloading. Shardian, my bro, the seller, and the person storing it all helped. This was a win-x-4 because it had been stored for months in a 3rd party's garage (along with the Cruisin), the owner needed to move/sell it, I wanted it, and Shardian gets a loaner game/commission with ease. The liftgate truck actually made this move really easy, well worth it! Still about 6 hours tied up though, but NO INJURIES. With a game this heavy, no injuries is a big deal!

The only person who got the shaft on this deal was my brother, who got nothing but the satisfaction of spending time with me. (And what more could a person ask for??) ;)

I drift in real life. And would love one of these machines. huge fan of the anime, own every episode. I have a japanese ps2 to play the initial d special stage game which is like a mix between stage 2 and 3. I love this game so much. so much money for a double. congrats!

I got to play this game tonight at Wade's. Pretty cool game. It has some features I really enjoy. The actual driving is so outrageously not realistic, but still a blast. I called it Initial H (for hovercraft).

Hopefully Wade keeps it together as a dual long enough for me to throw down my S2000 Vs. his RX-7 at least once.

I'm really digging it. I don't think the physics is too bad except for the lack of grip. Maybe they have crappy tires? ;)

Well, when I went to turn the game off Friday night, one of the Naomi boards had gone bad. It's toast!! Messed up graphics. :( That really blows. I'd even already made a deal with someone on it. Glad it went bad now rather than have to deal with it after selling it. I finally had time to start swapping parts around this Sunday, even packed up some parts that have sold. Hopefully the other parts will move pretty quickly. I'm ready to lose half of that sucker.

Oh man, that sucks HARD!!

When I went out there to pick up the speaker before I left, they were still running fine. I was soooo tempted to come in and jerk you around by telling you smoke was coming from it and a screen was blank. I decided it was in poor taste. Now I realize it was REALLY in poor taste! Maybe I was just having an ESP moment. ;)

Update. Messed around with the card readers/writers/printers and got one working! Haven't messed with the other one yet.

It allows more than just saving your name and car. It saves your lap times for all courses, both directions, wet/dry, night/day, CPU players beat, internet ranking codes, car setup, personal preferences like background music, viewpoint, etc. Very cool!! This adds a completely different aspect to the game.

Got the second card reader working! It had a bunch of tokens jammed up into it. ;) Otherwise it seems to work okay. Completed some stages yesterday and got some extra stuff printed on my card. ;)

Awesome score!! I played this game in Hong Kong and really thought it was different and cool. It has a very unique feeling too it. I have never seen one in the US. NICE.

This is the one I played in HK (crappy photo):
