New Galaxian High Score to Beat at the Outer Limits

This week has been a real barn burner for me. A couple days ago I put up a new High Score on Popeye in Arcade Hades. Now this morning, waaaaay down at the other end of the mall, in The Outer Limits, I put up a new high score on Galaxian. It has taken me months to finally break my old high score. I blame the microswitch buttons the previous owner installed. Time to change them out for leafs. I hope Sav doesn't make fun of me (as that really hurts my feelings) but the new Galaxian high score to beat is a cool 9 G's. If anyone wants to stop by and challenge me, feel free, but you better be a fan of studded leather coasters and Ether Martinis.

Nice job on the Galaxian. That's a game that I think I'm just cursed in since I was never able to get over 5K. I thought about dropping by the next time I'm at Camp Ripley to challenge you at Berzerk, but the thought of Ether Martinis and you in your stilettos are a serious concern for me.

Wow, I didn't know that I was "good" at Galaxian. I don't know what my best score is off hand, but I am pretty sure that it is over 15,000...

Galaxian is so underrated. I miss having one. It's so much simpler than Galaga, but the gameplay is great and the art package is a 10 on a 10 scale.

didn't you used to be the opposite. maybe someone else, but i seem to remember you preferring galaxian over galaga.

Not I... never.

I do play Galaxian X on my AS multi... but Galaxian original is just so... boring.

Almost like playing break out... but without the cool controller.

Go away. You're as bad as SAV. I prefer simple and classic. When you have every game at your fingertips via MAME, I can see why the early classics bore you. Overstimulated and spoiled you've all become. That's why I don't have a MAME rig nor did I enter this hobby via MAME like many of you posers. I liked arcade games as a kid, always wanted one, graduated college, had money to buy one, did so, broke it, then found KLOV. Within a year of finding KLOV I then started hearing about MAME, which I had NEVER heard of prior. Because of that, I still like the simple games:
Galaxian? Check
Berzerk? Check
Pacman? Check
Space Wars? Check
Moon Patrol? Check
Sea Wolf? Check
Asteroids Deluxe? Check
Tempest? Check
Satan's Hollow? Check
Most of those titles seem to bring out the "too slow" guys or the "too boring" guys or "the sequel's better" guys (Galaga, Ms. Pac). I don't consider MAME evil either, I think it's a great tool. Problem is, when you use it too often you begin to desensitize yourself to the essence of what made the classics classic. Simplicity and strategy.

Yeah... that's me... the guy who loves Star Castle... Asteroids Deluxe... Wizard of Wor... Kickman... etc... I really hate the classics.

Hate em.

Nope. It's just that Galaxian is a boring game. Always has been (even back when I was a kid)... and always will be.

Great art. Likely a worthy addition for the art alone if you have the room... but come on... it's a pretty weak game overall.

BTW - I like every game in your "check" list... except Galaxian. Hell, Berzerk is one of my "wants".

I think you're just having another "bad week". Galaxian is a great game. I assume you won't be stopping by to challenge me? I was planning on stirring (not shaking) your Ether Martini with my back turned and my fly open. Interested now?

Tempting...

I've worshipped at the altar of Galaga since I was little, but Galaxian is a quarter muncher for me, and a good adrenaline rush. I love my Galaxian cabaret - especially with the High Score Kit.

I'd have to take another look, but I'm up to around 17K or so...

Why can't they all be appreciated? The whole series (Galaxian,Galaga,Gaplus,Galaga '88, Galaga Arrangement) is great, and each one is unique enough, unlike other game sequels. For example every Metal Slug plays exactly the same, just more levels.

Any of you have one of these? I still have mine, used to play it for hours as a kid, 2 player mode is awesome!

This is not my video:

I have one of those too! There seems to be alot of them around -- the last time I checked ebay a bunch of people were selling. LOL.

Guys....Galaxian ROCKS.

You just have to "feel" that game. One of the games I played SO much in my younger years....

Regretfully I haven't put my HS on my scoreboard just yet:

However 9000 is a beginner's score.
