New Features: Search on 3-letter words, and New Styles/Skins
There are a few new changes to announce today.
First... Several of you have asked for the ability to search on 3 letter words (CPU, Z80, etc), as the default minimum length was 4. We finally got it working yesterday, though the forums won't be fully re-indexed until later today or tomorrow. The new limit is much more resource intensive than the last one and create a few minor unintended consequences, so for now I'm calling this a 'beta' project. It works, but there is always a chance we might have to go back to the way things were... It's amazing how a change that sounds so simple isn't always.
Secondly... Over the last few months we have suggested that new forum styles (skins) would eventually be forthcoming. First we wanted to make sure the system was stable and wanted a chance to get familiar with it before adding too many new variables. An upgrade last night gave us the chance to start doing this. So today we added what we are calling 'Black Slick' and 'Grey Slick' styles. A few months down the road we will look at some truly custom ones. To try the current ones out, look at the far bottom left corner of any forum page, and change 'Default Style' to one of the new choices.
We are still working on a few new things, and may likely have another announcement in the next day or two.

Recap of recent changes:
8/10/09 - We did a minor upgrade to the forum software. We also added some test styles (skins) to the forums, one slick black one and one slick 'Mac style' grey one. Another feature upgrade will probably be announced within the next 24 hours..
8/09/09 - Due to a number of requests, after some effort on and off the past few months, we reduced the minimum word length when doing a forum search from 4 to 3.
8/1/09 – We added a feature to add 'unlisted' game entries to your VAPS records.
7/20/09 – Work continues on a number of new features..
7/19/09 – We added about 100 new 'smilies'
7/18/09 – We began to work on drafts for forum guideline rules, and took a first step in reorganizing the forums, with goals to cut down on the fighting.
7/18/09 – We added an RSS feed for 'New Posts'. We also added an extra line to signatures, from approximately 3 to approximately 4.
7/7/09 – We added the iTrader 'eBay-style' feedback system
7/6/09 – We added a user reputation/karma system
7/4/09 – After a modification free to let the new software 'settle', we were off to making changes again. We added an automatic 'Similar Threads' feature when browsing, and link icons to social networking sites
2/27/09 – We upgraded the forum software to an entirely new system. We also doubled the limit on how many private messages (PM) one can keep in their box at a time.
2/25/09 – We split the lymphoma and arcade messages forums apart from each other.
