New DK (MAME) world record

Scores should only count on an actual machine and for a record it should be a verified machine. I love mame but in no way should it count for hi-scores.

considering people are playing the same rom set and version of mame, i think tracking high scores in mame is a great idea. of course i agree its not the same as playing on an actual machine, but i dont think theres anything wrong with tracking mame scores separately from arcade ones.

What he said.

If they're tracking crappy console system scores then why not MAME?

When you're comparing the score to the real Arcade machine, I agree, but when you're comparing the score to another MAME score then I say go for it!

Unless they have a Twin Galaxies referee handy, it seems that Mame submissions are an easier option for joe gamer to get in on the DK high score action, what with the new rules and all. I wonder what this guy would be capable of on a real machine...

I doubt that he could do this well on a real machine, well maybe with alot of pratice but I doubt it.

I tell you what - if I was legitimately good enough to challenge for the DK hi-score, I would abandon MAME in a hurry and drop a few hundo on a real machine.

I would definitely like to see what this guy can do on a real machine.

I do better on a real machine compared to MAME. One of the main things with MAME is that many of the games run a tiny bit faster. Unless you know the actual game really well, its imperceptible when you're playing, but if you watch a dedicated and a MAME cab running side by side, the MAME cab demo will advance faster. It makes many games harder. Stick on a dedicated machine will probably work better, too.

When I first built my MAME cab, I wondered why I was so horrible at Robotron. Turns out it was running way faster than the actual hardware, which was corrected in a later revision.

This guy is in the Northeast. He should go to Funspot and try to put up a real score.

There are too many variables between MAME machines to fairly compare the scores.

I even wonder if ROM revisions are tracked closely enough on dedicated machines, when I discover something like Atari's Asteroids Deluxe revision that I've never seen mentioned or differentiated from other revisions.

what gets me is all the crap they gave steve webie on his high score about tamperd with boards and doing the score in public i dont see how they can accpt the score from a mame rig if they accpt that score then steve's original score should now count also
total crap

i can see it now a new king of kong movie now they are going to oust steve and billy and they must now get the high score in mame

There is a totally separate category for MAME scores - you won't see this one show up under the "arcade" heading.

He (Dean) actually did 1,079,400 at Kong Off 2 on a real machine and doesn't even own his own . He is without question the best DK player in the world currently. He streams MAME games playing at 1.2m+ pace.

To say that MAME scores cannot be compared to arcade is true in the sense that you can't lump them together because of difference in controls, etc, but to say that what can be done on MAME cannot be replicated on arcade is false. 3 of the top 4 verified DK scores in the world on arcade are all done by MAME/former MAME players:

Vincent Lemay 1,135,900
Jeff Willms 1,105,400
Dean Saglio 1,079,400
