Hey all.

I've been trying recently to sell off (unsuccesfully) a Police trainer so I could make room for another shooter when I realized 'Hey, I can just stick another board in there!'.

I know Police trainer is Jamma, and the cabinet its in is a Big Boy (I think, not too clear on that, definatly not a dedicated) with both light guns working.

So how hard is it for someone to put a new board in/replace the current one in there? I know if I did this I'd probably end up doing a few things along with it. (the powercord is ancient, and the on/off switch is inexplicably missing so it can only turn on by plugging in).

I've never done it before, so thoughts and opinons are appreciated! (don't know what I'll swap it out with just yet, just know it'll be another light gun game)

Assuming it's really JAMMA it shouldn't be hard at all (turn it off, disconnect/unmount board 1, connect/mount board 2, and you're done).

The question is: how do the light guns map to JAMMA? Is there a standard way that happens? Because the JAMMA pinout doesn't have connections for light guns by default.

You just need to make sure that whatever you put in there uses the same type of guns and the same connectors, and you should be OK.

Unplug one board plug in another and then connect guns to the gun input headers on the board. The guns plug directly into the board.

Your only issue might be the gun connectors. Some games use a standard 4 or 5 pin connector (can't remember off the top of my head), and others use a 10 or so pin connector. Other games may use different ones as well. You can probably find adapters pretty easily though if you need them. Also, if your guns have a solenoid in them (recoil guns), I think they have a separate power supply and I/O board.
