Thanks guys, I truly appreciate the kind words and enthusiasm with opening an arcade in the CNJ area. If you guys have any suggestions, I welcome them with open arms. We opened up last Friday with a "Soft Opening" to try to work out any operational/mechanical kinks on both the machine end and operational side. Out Grand Opening is set for November 12th. Everything should be running smoothly by then.
The way how it works is we scan you in via a POS system. There is a minimum charge of one hour but after that it is sold in 15-minute increments (rounded down to the nearest 15). Essentially, you can play for 1:14 and pay for just one hour. Daily customers for the flat rate are kept track of via a different color bracelet and are also given in-and-out privileges for the day.
While I am not particularly fond of the "pay one price" system either (it does take something away from winning free games, trying to beat the timer to continue while you dig in your pocket for another quarter, etc), unfortunately it is the only way I was able to get this passed in the Downtown Red Bank Area.
Unfortunately, when people hear arcades they immediately think of loitering kids looking to cause trouble. Red Bank was very adamant against this and was very to-the-point that if this were to work in the downtown area, that it must be a pay-by-the-hour system to discourage any "riff-raff" that may hang around for hours on end. The furthest from the truth could not be true. The kids that have walked through our doors are more ecstatic that they finally have a place to go to than anything else.
That being said, it is still way cheaper than say a night out at the movies.
Feel free to check us out, and if you stop by, please feel free to ask for me to say hello.
This community has been exceptionally awesome and I look forward to providing everyone here with hours upon hours of entertainment for years to come.
