So a buddy of mine, Ken Kalada (who is a member here) recently just opened
up his Classic arcade on Board Street in downtown Redbank, NJ. Its a big place.

I swung by opening weekend to see how it was going and the place was
hopping. The past couple weeks, I've been trying to help him get some of
the tougher machines going with my meger skills.

The place looks great. Virtually all classics form the 80's and early 90's.
Bunch of decent pinballs. Everything is on freeplay. Pool table, Tons of
consoles, even a Vectrex. My kids and I had a great time.

If you're in the area.. check it out. I believe he charges 8 something an hour
or 25 a day? not sure... dont quote me!

Sorry about the crappy cell phone pics.

That is friggin' cool! Jealous!

Never been to Jersey, but would it happen to be Broad St instead of Board? Only reason I know it because the Secret Stash comic store is on Broad St. and I have always wanted to check it out.

Yep sorry broad street.. you are right. The arcade is a block and a 1/2 down the street from the Jay and Silent Bobs secret stash.

I'm 20 minutes away and will be checking it out soon. Is there a scoreboard as well?

definitely heading over to this place. looks like a good assortment. i don't understand the console stations -- whenever this has been attempted, it has failed. stick to coin-op, i say. they'll figure it out.

Nice! From '89 to '96, we had an arcade here that did the all-day pass system. But it was only $4 per person. Overall it was a great time, but those games and pinballs are going to take a beating being on freeplay.

How are they going to keep track who pays $8/hour and the ones that pay $25/day? Because there will definitely people who pay the $8/hour and try to get away with being there all day.

I've always wondered that too, the Silverball Museum in Asbury Park, NJ also does the same type of thing. I went for the whole day the one time I was there though so I wasn't sure what system they used for keeping track of the hourly folks.

Oh no! Another flat rate arcade? Oh well. I'll still go and check it out... at least once.

I hate this approach. No incentive to score replays on pinball. No incentive for them to keep their games in top shape. No incentive to be a better gamer. No incentive to drop by for a quick game ($8 minimum per visit). No incentive to relax, watch your friends play for a while or to spend too much time on one game, since you're paying for time. Hurry up and have fun!
It's a great business model if you don't expect repeat customers.

I'd have to agree 100% with all this^

That's how I know Red Bank! Drove up from Florida back in 2000 just to see the Quick Stop, etc. Wish this arcade was there then. :) So awesome.
