New Arcade Hauler

Yep, so true. The reason your brand new car depreciates 10% as soon as you drive it off the lot is because that $3000 just went into the pocket of the guy who just sold it to you...

I work for an automobile dealership. Would you like to cite your source for this?

'cause 'merica

It's always interesting looking over the pond at you guys with your pickups. We don't really have those over here. We use vans to move cabs about:

America needs more vans.

What do you do when it rains?

No rain would dare touch our cabs over here.... 'cause 'Merica!

I think a lot of guys here have a van or access to one. Just not going to make a post "Hey guyz, check out my new Voyager! It's got removable kid seats and a baby monitor. All the guys on the street are sooooo jelly!"

(because 'Merica)
:)

I recently replaced my 94 ranger with a 02 F-150 XLT. It was a great deal so I didn't shop around too much.

However..... next time I want to get a full-size with the most space between the wheel wells. Even though the truck is rated for twice the Ranger, I can still only lay one game down at a time. Just a little too narrow for 2 games.

Does anyone know which of the full size pickups (i.e. 1500, F150, Silverado, Tundra, etc..) have the most width in the truck bed? I'd like be able to lay down 2 pac-man size cabs side-by-side. Did it vary by body style /year?

I can tell you from experience that you can lay a Berzerk and Galaxian down side by side between the wheel wells in a 2003 Silverado! [emoji57] At least in an extended wheel base model (mine's a rolling gas can with crank windows!!!).

I think we laid some games side-by-side in a 2010-ish Silverado. A lower tailgate would be nice too. The ranger I had was lower than stock, and it made getting games in super-easy. I could get in a 400lb MK cab with no problem myself. The added height on F-150 changes the dynamics and my back just can't do it with some heavier games (i.e. Pole Position) so I've had to come up with new strategies.

Agreed. That's a major reason I haven't been sniffing around for a newer truck. The newer ones all seem to have higher tailgate heights, and my 47 year old body ain't getting any better at manhandling heavy games!

I grabbed a $20 ratchet winch from Harbor Freight and with the stake pocket clips, I can make an assembly which allows me to rig a larger game in without doing more damage to my back. Takes longer, but it's nice to prolong the eventual surgery. :)

There was a liftgate on CL here locally for a decent price that would fit on the f150, but I don't move that many games any more so decided to pass it up.

There are more vans here than there have ever been. Ford, Chevy and Dodge had full sized and minivans forever, now there are Nissan and Mercedes full sized along with a bunch of new micro vans like the Nissan NV200, Ford Transit and Chevy City Express.

I think one of the main reasons that pickups are more popular here is the availability of 4wd and that they're much more nicely finished inside. You can basically use one as your car and not feel like you're giving up a lot. I have a 2011 Ford E250 van for work and my crew cab pickup feels like a luxury vehicle in comparison!

Now that is a nice looking tundra. Do you like the soft top? I was thinking of a cap for mine, but they are pricey. I'm just thinking that the soft top would make a lot of noise on the highway.

Oh and that ford euro van looks pretty sexy too. I don't like the look of the vans here in the states.

The newer ones all seem to have higher tailgate heights

I bought a 2012 Toyota Tacoma access cab (last payment clears in 6 days, yippee!) primarily because it had the most cab space and still retained a low standard sized bed. MK cabs, Sea Wolf, Revolution X, you name it and I've loaded it by myself. However if the bed was a foot higher like on most larger trucks I don't think I could handled RevX by myself.

I'd really like to get a truck with more towing capacity and a larger bed, but I know that's going to make it harder to load games. I guess I could hit the gym and bulk up to make the difference, but I'm not going to kid myself at this point :p.

Someone should start a thread with used truck models that have larger cabs, 4 or 6cyl, and full sized but fairly low to the ground beds :cool2.

Hopefully he has the No Fat Chicks, Truck Will Scrape bumper sticker. I'm not sure any other sticker made me laugh, but that one sure got me!

Old lowered ranger

This is my 1994 ranger that served well for 12 years until the transmission froze up on the highway. Got it from a kid who had already lowered it and was going to try to customize it, but then gave up. I'm fairly short (5' 5") so you can see how low the tailgate would be.
