NEW New Arcade Coming to Cincinnati 2018: SUPERCADE

In our market studies we found there was a market not being fulfilled and we are seeking to fill that gap.

I mean... I don't want to rain on your parade but just because there is a "gap in the market" doesn't mean there's actually a market in the first place...

You... you understand that family arcades have all but disappeared right? It's not a gap... it's a grand canyon... and for reasons... like... you know... smart phones, an abundance of great home consoles, PC gaming, young kids disinterested in playing 30+ year old games... etc.

Trying to run a classic arcade in 2017 without serving alcohol or having most of the games be redemption is like lighting money on fire.

Thanks for all of the replies and thoughts. Obviously we've done a great deal of study and research on what and who our local market is, but as always a smart business owner must be observant of results and quick to adjust. Appreciate the input.

Just exactly what kind of study and research have you done? You have said that a couple of times and then dismiss someone's point but you don't offer any substance to the nature of the research you have done.

FWIW ... the two arcade owners I know both have expressed the fact that essentially, the games pay for the electricity... the food pays some of the wages... and it's the BOOZE that pays the majority of the bills.

No booze? Um, yeah... good luck with that.

I do hope it works out. It's never a bad thing to have more arcades around.

but your business model still includes kickstarter

well yah this.

I am all for people who have the initiative to start a business and wish you all the best but the kickstarter thing is not a good sign that you have everything in place you will need to make it work.

The only people I know who have managed to do well in these sort of ventures already had more then enough capital to last years and experience running another business.

I'm with Fritz here... Booze rules the roost. Just curious if you've reached out to other arcade owners in other areas of the country to see what has been successful for them?

Seriously, good luck with it all. I always hope places like these succeed nowadays.

OH HEY GUYS WHATS GOING ON IN THIS THR

...oh.

Don't EVER tell the owners of 1984 this.

They've been around for over 10 years now and are thriving with this exact business model. It may not always work but it definitely can in some cases.

Good luck guys. I wish you success. I'd like to donate but I'm working on something too. :)

We have registered the name with the state of Ohio and it is not a registered trademark. We have a tax ID number and are incorporated. Thank you for the concern and thought however.

Maybe you checked with the state for business entity name clearance. Trademarks are national, not state-by-state. "Supercade" is trademarked. You cannot use "Barcade" for a business establishment either as it's trademarked also. You should consider a new name. Van will protect her name vigorously. It would be a shame to throw out the kickstarter money over copying someone else's name.

Supercade

How original steal a name that's been in use and has a book written also. What a douche move. Being a close friend of this individual tread lightly.

Since you've only got 15 posts pretty much ever here, what is your technical expertise as far as games go? How will you maintain them? Are you going to put LCDs instead of CRTs in the games for instance?

Asking questions doesn't really constitute Getting Real per se.

Oh and I looked up all three of the SUPERCADE trademarks and they've all been abandoned and are therefore invalid. You gotta pay the annual fees to keep a trademark up to date. They're not active in perpetuity. With that being said, it's not very original but hey, who knows if that's necessary to be successful.

**UPDATE**
Common law trademark still applies to SUPERCADE even if they are abandoned. My bad. Using the name is not possible without permission or agreement with the trademark owner.
