Picked up my very first dedicated arcade cabinet earlier this week. I was surprised how heavy this little cabinet was given it is a caberet unit. I felt like I was hauling a 300 lb pin up the stairs when I picked it up.
The cabinet is pretty solid, some wear and tear on the sideart and controls. Overall cosmetic condition is decent though. Monitor looks really nice with no visible burn-in and a crisp picture/colors. Everything seems to be in place and working good minus the steering wheel shaker motor and the paper marquee.
Short term I plan to clean it up good and stick it in the lineup. My 4yr old daughter is already asking me to move it to the basement so she can play it. I'm really looking forward to see how the kids react once I get the shaker working.
Long term I'll probably do a restoration. Not sure if I'll go all out and do frame-off restoration with new art etc. Most likely I'll strip it down to blast and paint all the metal bits, repair some dents & touch up the cabinet, deep clean everything. Either way I'll be sure to do a resto thread so I can get tips along the way.
Does anyone reproduce this style of side art? Any tips on cleaning or repairing cigarette burn marks?
