Saw the ad on CL a few days ago... didn't think anything of it because it NEVER registered to me that it was a mini... thought it was some kind of half frankencab at first... till it was pointed out to me earlier today that "it's a mini, dumbass!" (paraphrasing actual text, direct quote of everyone's thoughts).

So, I thought I missed out on it... turns out I made it just in time... emailed the poster, got her number, called her up and got the hell outta the house when I realized I still had time. Went to the job, got some money I was owed (and I think maybe extra?... I'll have to do the math on that later)... Hightailed it to the ladies address, and of course was almost late due to what appeared to be a herd of wild blue-hairs in front of me (25mph in a 45mph zone... the whole way...). Got there RIGHT AT 3PM (when I was told ot be there by), checked out the cabinet to make sure the monitor was secured, checked out the plug, gave the cash, and was on my way out when I noticed their Multicade wasn't working (on freeplay in a pediatrics place)... so I set the dolly down, fixed their multicade real quick on my way out, and headed out.

Anywho, she's been covered with black vinyl... but you know... it doesn't look half bad... I'll take care of it later, but I'll leave it on there for now.

Oh, and I now have a cabinet with a full backdoor! It's a miracle!!! Of course the coindoor would be screwed up... but, backdoor!!! (my other machines don't have them... their kinda ass in the breeze as far as those go).

does it work? nice score, though. i like those mini's, and it looks pretty decent even with the black vinyl on there.

You redeemed yourself for going out and picking that thing up! :D Nice looking bezel and marquee on there too. Now you just need to get it working and enjoy. I'm officially jealous. I would love to find minis in that shape for even twice what you paid... Congrats on the pickup!

Nice score! what did the game next to it in the pics end up being? Looked like another mini, either a Galaga or Galaxian perhaps?

Oh and very cool fixing the multicade if it was in a pediatrics place, gotta get the sick kids their games!

thats sweet man. whered u get it?

Lady in Brentwood... the monitor "went out"... with all the missing fused I can't tell for sure, but I do kinda hear the flyback half buzzing when I turn it on... at least I think it's the flyback... def. a squeal coming from something in there. Anywho, they wanted it gone, and I was happy to help. lol

I can't tell yet... missing 3 fuses somehow... If I could get them from my other cabinets I'd test it out real quick, but sadly it has some oddball fuses in there so I'll have to make, what I'm sure will be, a fruitless radioshack run tomorrow.

If it doesn't work after I replace the fuses... ... it will eventually work... mark my words. While I was really wanting to have Ms.Pac on a XX in 1 board, I think clearing out a little extra room for a dedicated mini won't be too much trouble.

I was worried about the black sides, but it was pretty nicely done... I can't see any damage through the vinyl, but I'd rather not risk it right now until I'm able to replace/fix what could need fixing as far as the cabinet goes. I'm already up to my butt with cabinet repairs as it is... I have to replace the bottom 1' of Galaga and Pole Position, compeletely restore and restencil Robotron, Crazy Kong needs some work done, and my empty Galaxian (new XX in 1 canidate) is peeled down to bare wood... so, if it looks nice like it is, I'd really rather not add that to the list just right now. Bird in the hand and all that junk...

The one next to it was a mini Galaga, and it too was in near perfect shape. lol AMAZING look monitor and the bezel and marquee were pretty much perfect on it too.

I asked her if they were interested in selling it... she said not right now, but if it ever came up, she has my email and phone numbers and I'm on top of the list. So... keep your fingers crossed. (FWIW, they have Galaga on the multicade, so the kids wouldn't be without one... so cross them fingers son!)

EDIT: I about forgot my bitch list... the Empire City (green Taito) is in great shape too, and does have a back door... but I don't really consider that -my- game... I have it, but just because it was @ $40 at a garage sale.

OH, and when I got the cabinet home I told my mom about it (she wanted a MsPac) and she was on the other line with a friend of her's... Turns out her friend has, what sounds like a wide body, Mario Bros. lol So... might be getting that too if I play my cards right... keep them crossed fingers warmed up

That squeal may be that anode wire/cup not being attached to the tube well. You can hear the vacuum when it is loose and it makes a hissing, but with more noises that might be considered a squeal.

Anyway, start a repair thread on that thing when you get some fuses. :)

doesnt the flyback make a "farting" sound when it's shot?

This one is making the standard flyback squeal. I'm not sure if everyone can hear them?... some of my friends can't... but when I walk into a room with a TV on (CRT) I know instantly from across the room. It's make'ng that sound, just really quiet and fade'ng in and out every second and a half or so.

That noise is usually referred to as a "whine". :) Your probably powering the monitor, but missing fusses for the game board power. So who knows, the monitor might be ok. I would go through every connector and make sure it is where it is supposed to be and plugged in well. Check the voltages off the power block to the schematic and pop some replacement fuses in there and fire it up!

Actually, double checking it... the anode cup is not forming a good seal (didn't even look at first... just took it for granted) on the tube... I'm getting zero neck glow, not sure if that would have anything to do with it... one way to find out I guess.

I'll probably have to order the fuses in... $3 shipping from Digikey... or 5 bucks in gas to RadioShack... Wait a couple of days... or instant irritation (I still remember when radioshack actually had parts that you might need... just can't get it through my head that they're useless as a c**k-flavored lollipop these days).

Okay... that would explain something. The glue from the yoke pads (someone went apeshit with the stuff at the factory) had apparently melted and run up and around the cup...

So... now I'm scraping around the hole with a razor blade just thinking "this is gonna hurt, this is gonna hurt, this is gonna hurt..." It's discharged, but still...

Anywho, cleaning that off to see if it'll make a difference.

Home Depot if you have one... Most of the common fuses can be had for $2 for a 5 pack. What kind of monitor is in there? Is it a GO7? I guess we can wait for the Monitor thread. :D

hahahaha....i still get nervous on my chassis while im working on it. I accidently touched the soldered side of the neckboard while running...not to bad(thank god for calloused hands) but still scared the crap outta me.

Yeah, it's a baby G07. I'll do that one on my own... I think I have some manuals laying around here somewhere for them... I think.

And I found them and checked (flowcharts is all I could find). Backside of R1 is showing 145VDC, front side is showing 168VDC. So... voltage issue. The next step on the chart is removing a transistor and testing again, but I left my good soldering iron up at the arcade... so... sucks to be me. I'll have to check it out later, unless I feel like messing with my old iron (uggggg).

I'll check out HomeDepot tomorrow, it's much closer than radioshack. So it'll only be about $1 in gas... I can risk that. Thanks for the tip.

Okay, the boards work. I have to hook them up to a switching PS though... guess the originals just weren't working that well... Voltages on the original appeared to be correct when I tested them... but when I turned the machine on I got nothing but static in the speakers... actually sounds like my jacob's ladder so it really scared me a little. lol

Anywho, directly wired +5, +12, and GND to the board and she fired right up. I hooked it up to a spare 4900 I had laying around and everything looks great. I'm going to leave everything running for the rest of the day as an extended smoke check. But, once I get the monitor un-screwed... should have a nice little machine on my hands. :)

If you're interested, I've got a two bit score multi-pac conversion kit. Its not doing any good aging down in my basement, so you're welcome to it.

just drop me a PM...

That's a pretty nice pickup. I just wonder what would make someone cover up the sides with that black vinyl. Didn't it originally have woodgrain sides?
