At least if you are stripping to bare wood. Goo Gone soaks into the wood and makes it difficult to paint. Acetone works much better and completely evaporates.

Here is my thread where I used Goo Gone and Acetone, You can see in the photos where I used Goo Gone. I think I should have it under control now, but I made painting it more difficult.

Yes it does leave a residue behind...

Goof Off is the better of the two for things like that.

You can see where I used Goo Gone at the top:

The bottom was Acetone which was awesome!

Goo Gone should be used to remove decals, adhesive residue and glue from plexi, laminate and metal. I don't think it was made to strip bare wood of paint and glue? Try using goof off or acetone on plexi sometime.

Thanks for the tip. I have a cabinet I am about to gut and was planning on using to all mighty Goo.

If you are stripping a cabinet of its artwork, I suggest using a heat gun, then acetone on the remaining adhesive. It worked great for me, I just wish I didn't try Goo Gone first. Goo gone works good for removing stickers from marquee glass, but don't use on bare wood.

I didn't use Goo Gone to get the paint off, there was adhesive leftover from the old side art:
