Never leave a fallen soldier behind...another DK CPO restore.

You're a genius and that looks awesome. Everytime I use Novus, both my arms are sore when I'm done. I'm going to try the drill next time.

Don't sell yourself short. That was damn fine job you did. I ended up puting the best matching pair on my DK, the two best repaired ciggy buttons on my DK3 panel and I have the best button and andother ciggy button in the drawer for later.

I can do those other buttons for you too, I understand I have a bunch of other projects, so the turn about might be longer. :D

The most drastic comparison of the two (my favorite part of all restoration threads)...

Simply amazing! I feel really bad to have tossed some better looking overlay than you started with. I don't know if I have the patience to do what you just did. Awesome Nerdtendo!

looks awesome. If you really have time with a project like this, you could sand the whole thing and make it more uniform.

the trick it to sand ALOT with each grit, if you get lazy or in a hurry, it will show.

i have a scrathed up op wolf bezel mabye i should to a writeup about polishing it up.

But if you sand the whole thing evenly 500 dry -untill all flaws are gone- and untill its an even haze, 800 dry till its an even haze. at this point you should see no scratches. If there are any left, go back and repeat 500,800.

now sand with 1000 wet untill its an even haze, (optional-will make polishing easier)2000 wet, should start to clear up, sand untill all 800 and 1000 sanding marks are gone. (must do) 3000wet will clear it up alittle more and removve the 2000 grit marks, if you did all that right it will take a shine by polishing easily and quickly.

Great job on that cp NERDtendo. It is amazing how you can bring these old Nintendo cps back with a little effort. Mine was a little bit better than yours when I started but was very happy with the results.

cadillacman's method was actually what I did too, no Novus but no more cig burns or scratches. Just goes to prove there is more than one way to skin a cat. (Not that I would actually suggest anyone skin a cat, especially not mine.)

Every time I see this thread it blows me away.
I've come to realize in this hobby (I guess like all others really) that the right tools for the job do make a difference. The right tools in connection with some know how help to really bring back from the dead classic parts.

I purchased some goodies of NERDtendo that I have used on my Mario project.
And I look forward to trying these techniques out on the marquee.

It's been a long time since I worked on this DK CPO, and I finally got around to doing something with it. As usual, a NERD's work is never done so the first thing I did is fix the few duller areas on this CPO. I spent a couple hours the other day and got it to what I would consider good. Then I went ahead and built a full control panel out of the miscellaneous items in my parts drawer. It isn't perfect (there's a small chip in the laminate on the bottom right) and it needs t-molding, but this CPO has come a long way since it showed up on my doorstep. Take a look...

By the way, I realize this thread died long ago. I just like to wrap things up when possible.

Looks beautiful. I really wish most manufacturers did thier cpos like this, it would be alot easier and cheaper to restore cps!

Liar! I can see that the "After" CPO is a different one. ;)

Man, that's amazing. I always thought cig burns were the end of it, but we often forget that it's a thick piece of clear plastic with art printed underneath. Though, I would never attempt something like this. I'm happy with my repro. Haha. I applaud your work. :)

Wow, that's amazing. I just bought a Donkey Kong Jr Marquee and the owner threw the a cigarette burnt Control Panel. A little Baby Oil and a microfiber cloth cleaned it up a bit, but it's still looks pretty roached.I'll be following your method and using the same materials to get this thing looking as nice as possible. Thanks for your post, I'm glad I fired off a quick google search and came across this post before I just stored it away.
