Ok so today looking at yard sales I found an NES system with a few games:

life force
tetris
silent service
marble madness
TMNT
blaster master
dream master
mike tysons punch out
star tropics
solar jetman
michael andretti's World GP

I am very happy to finally have one and with some crazy games to boot. Question I have is how with the newer TV's and such do you hook it up? I have tried but it keeps flashing with an orange screen (my gf and i think the box is messed up due to our memories of them messing up back in the day doing the same thing. Anyways if anyone has any info on some of the games (some Ive never heard of) and or what to do with my issue itd be great.....I cant wait to play this...

I don't think it has anything to do with the TV. The NES console itself is probably fucked up, as many of the front loaders are. Make sure the game is in there good and try wiggling it around a bit and see if anything comes up on the screen. The 72 pin connector is probably bad or dirty. You could try cleaning it. I'd recommend just getting a top loader though.

+1 for the top loader...

If you don't want to shell out the $50-70 for a top loader you could always go with one of the knock off 2-in-1 systems (SNES and NES in one). I've had pretty good luck with them and I see them for sale everywhere, and for fairly cheap as well...

...one trick I used to use is jamming another game on top of the one in the console, the extra pressure will push the game against the pins a bit more...

...if you decide to fix the 72-pin connector it's fairly easy, just a bit of work getting it out. Once you have it out just use a safety pin to slightly pry each of the pins up a bit.

I've never really seen an orange flashing screen... always was blue for me... although the Sharp TV with an NES built in I have, does a purple screen flash...

life force - one of my favorites! Classic shooter!

tetris - I don't think there's any need for an explaination

silent service - never played.I believe it's a submarine type game

marble madness - simple, yet challenging and fun

TMNT - very fun and challenging.

blaster master - a side scroller.not my fav,but a cult classic. My favorite thing do to in this game was to see how high I could get in the vehicle, get out of it,and jump off the ledge and see how many other ledges I could bounce off of before I finally hit the bottom.Pretty funny.

little nemo the dream master - is a solid side scrolling game from capcom.Fun,but kid oriented.

mike tysons punch out - greatness in a cart

star tropics - an RPG type game with a tropical setting. The game isn't bad, although the graphics are subpar even for NES standards.

solar jetman - never played, although i've heard it's pretty fun.

michael andretti's World GP - never played as well. It's a racing game, and that's all I know about it.

Why have I. NEVER. DONE. THIS. ??? :001_ssuprised:

Thanks a bunch guys, I'll try and find a top loader while at the same time see if i can fix the pins.

I did want to ask exactly how to hook it up? I am not sure i'm doing it right. I hooked up to the back on tv (the coaxial part) does anything need to go into that part to complete anything? Also can the audio/ video cables just be plugged in to the normal jacks on the tv? I just want to make sure i even have it hooked up right...Thanks again guys, I was like a kid in a candy store when i saw it with the games..LOL

I'd recommend just getting a top loader though.

Top loaders have horrible image quality. For one thing, they don't have composite output, and their RF output lacks the shielding of the front loader's, and you get faint lines through the picture.

So even though RF is crap even in a best-case scenario; the front loader's RF is better than the top loader's RF. Plus it has composite output, which beats RF hands down.

To make the front loader reliable, get a new 72-pin connector. Also, it is a good idea to disable the lockout chip. There are about forty-eleven thousand threads on the internet about this.

Never had problems with mine. There's also an a/v mod for the top loader which I keep meaning to do to mine, though I've never really felt the desire to just yet.

You can find plenty of reports of people still getting the lines even with an A/V mod on the top loaders (among other issues; given that there are various ways to do it, and no "official" method).

This is interesting though (be sure to watch those YouTube links too, or at least the first one). Apparently Nintendo made a replacement motherboard for people who complained about the lines on their top loaders, and it has the same proprietary A/V connector that the SNES and Gamecube had. It also added shielding. Now that would be awesome to have; but I'm guessing that they are rare as hen's teeth.

My top loader just collects dust. I don't like RF for one thing, and I definitely don't like the lines. Fortunately, it was free. I have two of the common front loaders that are both 100% reliable since I replaced the 72-pin connectors and disabled the lockout chips about 5 years ago.

To answer your question...No, the RF box/switch whatever you want to call it goes right from the console to the coax input on the tv. Make sure the channel on the back of the NES (3/4) matches up with the channel you have on the tv. As for the AV cables, yes you can use that INESTEAD of the coax. Just plug it into any RCA input on your tv and set the input accordingly on the tv.

yu can get brand new pin connectors off ebay for $5 and all you need a screw driver tp put it in and 15 mins of your time

the retro systems are junk and the top loaders are too expensive for what they are

last year i was buying lots of "broken" and blinking NES systems off ebay for dirt cheap and putting new pin connectors in them, tossing in a few crap games and bam, $50 profit on ebay. the market has kinda died off recently though

but byt a new pin connector, its really like having a brND new system

If you are getting a solid color, it's the system.
I would still use the A/V cables though on the side of the NES.

I have seen the orange screen before. Ever get it running? It does sound like you need to scrub the connectors though. You can also buy replacement (72 pin?) connectors for inside the system, but they hold the games really tight. They do work though, if the one you have is shot.

flashing colors are still there, I'm trying to get it all figured out and prob will fix the 72 pin connector. I'll try just the jacks to see but I'm sure it all needs to be gone through...thanks for all info.

Change the connecter

An original frontloader NES is basically bullit proof. The only component that has a tendency to fail is the 72 pin connecter because it pinches down on the cart ond over time the stiffness of the pins wears out causing games not to come in correct contact with them. It could also be caused by the pins simply corodind or braking. I guarentee you changing the 72 pin connector will fix your problems and its a really cheap extremely simple fix. So for the love of god man change the connecter and get back in the game!

If you getting a solid non flashing screen then it's the cart. If it's flashing then it's the system not reading the cart.
Don't bother with a top loader, there crappier and a waste of money, the original front loader is alot better. You just need to get 2 RCA cables and hook up the composite video, it gives you a great picture and even the newest TV's still have this input. Don't bother with an RF hookup. Good luck.
BTW in the last week I scored 136 Million on Zanac, and beat Ninja Gaiden twice today without hardly any continues. I'm better then ever at NES games, i'm beating games easier now then ever. Now i'm playing with power.
