So anyone that doesnt have a burner that would like the chips for
Mario bros
Dk
Dkjr
Dk3
Feel free to pm me, ill burn and ship.... Was thinking $10 a set shipped......
This way more people can play them and make sure there isnt issues....
As more games come up, and i have time, ill test and add them to my list of willing to burn.

Hopefully this will help get more vs projects underway

Missed this thread till now!

In the near future there will be a new product out for playing NES games on the Vs (with any ppu, along with all other Vs games). But there are ways to get a few games running on Vs with just eproms.

Search for out NROM based games. The Vs used 4-screen fixed name table mirroring (4kb) where as the NES uses 2kb horizontal or vertical mirroring (setup by the cart). Depending on how the game is programmed, they may or may not work with 4-screen mode.

You need to tell more details... Want a beta tester?

I need to stop derailing peoples threads, lol

A year ago I started trying what you're doing -- playing NES games on Vs. Ended up building a NES cart adapter for Vs, but not a lot of games would work properly. That progressed into building a few one off daughter card pcbs for NES games to run on Vs (made my own personal copy of VsSMB3, with coin up code and world select from attract screen). Then I got my hands on a CPLD, and made a custom mapper and rom hack for loading multiple Vs games. Now I've gone off the deep end playing with FPGA, flash programming over usb, and a bunch of other funky cool options because you can do anything you please to the cpu and ppu with programmable logic tied in. The hardware is 99% complete, and mainly focused on the software right now. Hit a big bug recently, then went on holidays for a while... Now I've returned and decided to finish some other old incomplete projects. I'm sure in the coming weeks I will return to my 'UniVersus' project and solve the remaining issues. Then I will have much more to share :)

This is pretty much exactly the path I'm looking at.

The mapper details I figured out too. I found that NES games with vertical mirroring seem to work more often due to the mirroring and programming issues. I went with this because it reduced the number of games i needed to test to <200.

You guys should get together and exchange ideas!

Also on a separate note, did you ever get around to doing any more freeplay mods cyberkni?

I got down to running through all the NES ROMs in my collection. I posted the results of my testing here. I came up with 102 different ROMs which work in MAME.

Based on his mame/vs testing its possible that those 102 will work.
As far as actual testing, since you have to physically burn chips and put them on the vs board, so far I personally have tested mario bros, dk, dkjr, dk3. As i have time ill try to burn some and test them. Or if someone has a request from the list in the link above, ill do that first. It will take sometime to get threw the whole list, unless more people want to burn and test.
The ppu is the rc2c03b, rc2c03c, or rp2c03b...... More commonly known as the duckhunt/tennis/playchoice ppu. It is the same pallet that the nes uses.

I lack a duckhunt PPU in my collection so I'll be testing with other PPUs.

Additionally, I have a complete set of "working in MAME" ROMs split up and ready for burning. PM me and I can provide a link.
