I have a Gauntlet Dark Legacy in a 39" showcase cabinet that is too dark. I did a cap kit on it. The color is great but the image is still too dark. I got the cap kit from Bob Roberts but it was missing several caps. I did not replace those yet. I am wondering if it is one of the remaining caps, or is it something else that might be the problem causing the dark image. If I turn up the screen adjustment on the flyback, I get the scan lines so I can't turn that up. What controls the brightness on the monitor? Any ideas?

Thanks.

dude, you just used the standard Neotec capkit? I went to install mine from Bob last week on my 3501 and the caps that were in it weren't even remotely close to what were in Bob's kit, lol.

did you compare your caps that you took out to the ones you were putting in?

also can you snap a pic of your chassis, Bob seems to think that maybe I have some knockoff chassis in mine.

I did compare the caps and replaced the ones that matched up. There were just some missing. This is a clean chassis from a dedicated GDL cab. It has not been worked on before. I'll get a picture posted.

monitor

could be it needs to be rejuved.

None of my Super Mack socket adapters fit this monitor. Anyone else have any chassis issues I can look at for the dark image?

ya, mine looks just like this. which caps did you replace, can you list those for me?

how's your focus looking? I had a monitor with major focus/convergence issues and the flyback replacement brought it back (tube was rejuved too, one of those garbage Zeniths I PMed you about)

I did not write down what I replaced. Also, I did not replace the flyback. I do have a slight focus problem. Do you think a flyback would fix the brightness?

Replacing the remaining caps that were not included in Bob's cap kit did the trick. The monitor is bright and the color is fantastic. I did not have to change the FBT. Thanks for everyone's help.

Does anyone have a list of the caps needed? I had to put in a custom order for a Neotect NT-2701 because the kit he sent me wasn't even remotely close to being correct. I have a Neotec 3501 in a Gauntlet Legends cab as well and need a cap kit...I can tell from both of your previous posts that Bob isn't selling the correct kit. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

that's what I said! him and Ken were like "you must have a knockoff chassis then" ... really now? I know what the previous operators were like, and a knockoff chassis from china is far beyond their creative scope of doing things. :)

where did you wind up getting a kit from? Happ doesn't have it, and I don't think Zanen does either. and I know Bob doesn't.

Had the same thing

And I had to replace the caps in the power circuit in the corner of the board. I forget what they were, but they weren't in the kit and I had to buy them separately.

This might be a common failure in these monitors.. I had the same game and all!

Good work!

Ken Layton sent me a cap list for the NT-2701...I sent the list to Bob and since it was a custom order and he had to pull all of the caps, he hit me for $20. At the time I was more than happy to pay it since my GT Complete had been down for a week and I was having a party that weekend! I just looked on Bob's site and he has a new Neotec kit listed on there for $11...Maybe he created a cap kit from the list I sent? Back in June when I ordered the custom list, all he had was the combo kit.

Also, I just went back and looked at my emails to him and the list showed the cap kit was for Neotec NT-2700, NT-2701, NT-2702, NT3500, NT3501, and NT3506. So I guess I just answered my own question! LOL Wonder if Bob's pincushion cap kit is correct? I guess I am going to go ahead and order both...I will let you know!!

BTW here is the list...

I ordered both kits from Bob back in August actually (I remember because it was the first NFL preseason game). they were completely off. that's when I started asking around and KLOV gave me the usual middle finger about the subject like I was crazy or that I had like a Wei-Ya in there.

I'm glad you found the answers though. I figure not many people have Neo 3501s in their houses, heh.

just so happens that we have a Cruis'n Exotica deluxe in our arcade, I might not even need a cap kit for it really, I just never messed with the pincushion board before (I never knew it had one until I started getting heavier into monitor repair). it was one of those games that happened to not give me any grief after a tech reflowed solder to like EVERYTHING on the chassis.

Cool, I decided not to order and just ship it to Neotec for repair...they will repair the chassis for $80 which includes parts and labor. Since this thing is clicking and chirping, I am not even going to mess with the headache of troubleshooting this damn thing...not when Neotec will do it all for a fair price and I will have it back within a week! I sent my 2701 in to Neotec when one of the resistors started glowing red and I didn't have a picture...that resistor had actually melted part of the board. The board I got back wasn't what I sent in...they had replaced it in my chassis. I was just happy to have my Golden Tee Complete working again!! I will have my 3501 chassis back next week...can't wait!! :)
