I have a Golden Tee Complete with a NeoTech 2701. Sometimes when I fire up the machine the screen comes on scrambled. I was messing with the monitor controls inside the coin door to fix it and accidently touched the monitor control pcb to the metal coin box then the monitor became unscrambled and worked fine. It doesn't happen all the time, maybe every 3rd time I turn the game on the screen comes up scrambled and the only way to fix it is to make the monitor controls touch metal. Sometimes is sparks too! Thank cant be good! Any ideas what might be causing this? Thanks!

sparks

First of all stop doing that!
check for a crack solder joint were the video plug is and also check to see if the pin inside the plug is not crushed inside and not making connection all the time. Maybe your horz. hold pot is at the wrong spot. Give it a tweak.

Yeah I know i shouldn't do that, but i haven't found any other way to get the game working when this happens. Thanks for the suggestions. Adjusting horizontal hold pot does not help. I'm going to inspect the solder joints and cabling tomorrow. As far as I know the monitor has never had a cap kit. It has a production date of 1999 and the colors still looks pretty good.

Damn!

Well now I think the whole monitor just went out. The screen now does not turn on but I can hear the game sound so I know its working. The monitor is making a sound I can only describe as chirping coming from somwhere on the chassis. Is it dead or can it be saved?

Chirping can be from bad electrolytic caps, bad power supply, bad horizontal output transistor, or bad flyback.

Dang, that doesnt sound like anything that can be fixed before my party tomorrow!! Figures! I think its time for a new monitor anyways.
