I have a neotech 2501 in my California Speed that is really dark and blurry. Would a cap kit fix this or should I be looking at something else.

I also have another neotech 2501 that is in my Crusin World that has vertical lines in it. Same question. Cap kit or something else.

I am planning on doing a cap kit to both but wanted to see if there was anything I needed to consider before ordering just kits.

My rule is always cap a monitor just because but sounds like both of your flybacks are outta adjustment/going bad.

Neotecs have junk flybacks just like the latter model Wells-Gardner analogs (K7400/7500) and exhibit the same symptoms where the focus or brightness are erratic or you can't adjust them out right.

I'm going to guess that you didn't try to adjust them though...?

Neotecs you typically dial the focus knob all the way in to achieve best focus, as opposed to the happy medium method most monitors use.

I've found that caps CAN fix the color issues on these if they appear too dark. I worked at a place with a pair of Rush 2049s where one monitor was noticeably darker than the other and it looked like a tube issue, but the levels were perfect on my rejuvenator. if I'm not mistaken the caps on the neckboard when they dry out can make it appear darker or look like the tube is bad. be mindful a lot of these came with later model Zenith tubes though, and those were junk.

if you turn the Screen pot up on the flyback and you can't have absolute black AND good color, I would start with the caps. if the problem persists, then find someone with a rejuvenator and verify the tube is good. last approach you start spinning the color adjustments to see what you can get out of it.

Thank you all for the help. I will be ordering both cap kits and new flybacks for both soon.
