Just did a cap kit on a neotec 31E.

Monitor now chirps / clicks and doesn't come on. I have checked the HOT and it seems to be toast.

I can't find a manual for the 31E - but the schematics / board layout looks the same as the 27E manual. The HOT in that manual is D1879 which crosses to NTE2331.

I'm hoping it is just the HOT - but my guess is that I will just blow it again. Any clues on what could cause that? Should I just replace the flyback as well? (does the flyback/hot blow together in this series monitor?) I understand the flybacks often cause blurriness / etc, but this screen was actually in ok shape before I capped it - no flyback issues.

Thanks for any help in advance.

id guess mabye you got a cap in backwards or you have a solder bridge somewhere..

new caps can stress a old fly and kill it, however id think hat it would have worked for at least a short ammount of time before that could have happened.

Thanks for the advice.

Upon inspection, it seems I forgot to clip the legs off of a single cap. Not sure if that caused it or not. The legs did not appear to be touching any of the solder side pins.

I have tested the HOT just to be sure - I get open from base to collecter, but very low resistance (.2 ohms) from base to emitter - so I'm assuming the HOT is shorted. Both the base and the emitter have very low resistance to the chassis as well, which I can assume means the HOT is fried.

I guess I will swap the HOT and go over the caps again and see what happens. The Fly doesn't look bad, but I don't have a tester, and I was just wondering if the Flys tend to go with he HOT like many other monitors, or if I can get by with just replacing the HOT.

Ok, just an update.

When I pulled the HOT, it seems to have tested fine. The NTE2331 is NOT the HOT for this model, apparently. (The comparative measurements were way off).

After double checking my work, C425 was in backwards. Turned it around, and the screen fired right up.

Thanks for the help - I hope this information can help someone else in the future.

YAY!! Glad to hear it was an easy fix!! I cant believe the cap didnt pop, they usually pop or bulge if you put em in backwards...

but glad to hear it was a super easy fix heh
