I have the opportunity to get a metal slug dedicated machine for 300. It appears to be in good shape and I enjoy that game. It is not a MVS though which I had no idea they even made single game machines. If I got this I would eventually decide to get a multicart most likely since metal slug does get old and it won't have the cool game switching option like MVS machines. So the two big questions any problems with running a multicart on mv1? And is 300 pretty fair for a unit in good condition? I would just continue googling but I'm afraid if I wait too long it's gonna get picked up and I know these boards are crawling with proud Neogeo owners. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

If it's a nice cabinet, then I'd say go for it. When you say 'dedicated' what do you mean? Is it nice Neo single slot red cab like this?

Regardless, if it's got an MV-1 board in there, then you're probably fine. I've had better luck with my multi-cart on my two single slot boards (MV-1 and MV-1C) than I have on my 4-slot board. On the 4-slot, it crashes almost every time, while both single slot boards usually have no issues at all with it.

300's a fine price. If that's a single board it's JAMMA. I don't know the answer about your multicart though. Do note that MS5 got released as a JAMMA board as well, so be sure you're buying a single slot MVS board with a cart and not just the JAMMA board. Figured there's a small chance you could walk away with something different than you expected so I would throw that out there.

Here is a pic, it doesn't look like the red cabs I saw growing up so maybe it is jamma? I didn't know they made those either. I found a YouTube vid of a 120 in 1 cart by you tighe, I'm gonna watch it as soon as I get home.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1336869767.545122.jpg

Metal Slug 1 only came in MVS cart form. But 1-slot boards are wired JAMMA. So it's an MVS cart in a 1-slot board :).

note, if it's the old MV1F 1 slot it's jamma AND neo. The only difference being the mono/stereo switch on the pcb.

Just played it seemed shorter then the neogeos I remembered playing but it could just be in my head. The owner wasn't there for me to get inside it but I snapped a few pics and saw a sticker on the front with model and serial number. Weird thing is it says MVS?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1336877736.781140.jpg here is a pic of the side ImageUploadedByTapatalk1336877777.369542.jpg

It looks from the CP/plaque like it's a 1 slot MVS running a Metal Slug cart with a Metal Slug art kit. I wouldn't pay 300 for it (better MVS cabs can be had for that, I got my two slot dedicated for 200) but if you're a huge Metal Slug fan it may be worth it for the cabinet.

That is a dedicated Neo Geo. Looks like it's been repainted and stenciled. Don't know why someone would do that...

You can see all the numerous US MVS cab revisions here.

It's possible that one you are looking to buy was the Samurai Shodown II cab and was eventually stripped of the artwork.

Yep that's exactly what the cab looks like! Thanks for all these great links guys. I'm seriously thinking about getting this. One person said 300 seemed high but do you think 200 would be insulting? It does have a nice looking 25 inch monitor although it seemed to be a little dark, if it's not the brightness just turned down then do you think it just could use new caps? Seems like cap kits fix most people's monitor probs on here ;) thanks again guys for all your knowledge and expertise on this stuff. Now I just gotta figure out where to put this because I have a clone noir hd cab coming this week and I don't have much space for either. :-/

If it's the original monitor, will probably be a Wells Gardner K7000. Cap kits and flybacks are still available.

Eh, don't let the cheapskates here lead you down the wrong path. A 25" Neo Geo with Metal Slug isn't bad for $300. It isn't a DEAL at that price, but I wouldn't feel bad about paying that, not in the least.

If you break down the parts, maybe 50 bucks for the cart, 100 bucks for the board. Leaves 150 for a working cabinet with monitor. Not bad.

I'd pay $300 for that in a heart beat. Hell, I paid $400 for mine, and it's in much worse shape than that.

300 for a dedicated MVS is actually a pretty good deal. What makes 300 an "enh" deal in this case is it is a cosmetic train wreck. I thought for a split second from the thumbnail you might have had the rare Samurai Shodown cabinet, but it is just painted white. It looks like maybe it wasn't stenciled, but painted white with the white lettering still popping through.

Anyways, it's going to take a bunch of repainting/stenciling/scraping to undo all of that white. How badly, if at all, do you want it back to its original state? Lucky you, you got this project when someone has repro'd the CP art.

...or another way to look at it is as if it were a conversion, utilizing the parts to weight its worth: MV-1s are worth between 60-100-ish. Good working 25 inch monitor is worth what now days? 2-300? You're ahead without counting the Metal Slug 1 and the entire thing working. Bonus it is the dedicated wood, minus it is painted white.

Worse comes to worst, find an empty dedicated and transplant if you don't want to do the work of getting the white off. Give the white cab to someone that wants to tackle it.

I forgot the link, but there was a guy who restored a red neo with new formica from home depot. They offer a color that is pretty close to the original. Cabinet looked brand new when he was done

Ok so what I was told by a buddy is that it's a samurai showdown 2 cabinet and that white is the original paint under the artwork. I suppose if it was painted then under the snk model serial number sticker it would be red. On the pic on hardmvs the side art is ripped on the left side upper top and it's white so looking more likely that a custom or conversion CPo was just added. The current owner has only had it a couple years so I won't likely be able to verify any of this. Going to make a offer and if I get it then I guess I'll just have a white neo-geo for now :) if I get inside that thing and find out it was painted then I know it will become a project because it will bother me to the point that I will be riding down to homedepot looking for that shade of red! But I have never painted with stencils which I'm sure will need to be done to get the snk logo back on the sides. Has anyone had to do that on here? Thanks again guys for all your knowledge on these. Btw, does anyone on here have a multicart they want to sell or trade?

I assume you're talking about this: http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showt...red-25-restoration-progress-with-lots-of-pics

I wish I could see the formica side by side with an original...I'm curious to do that as well, but would prefer it if someone made color match vinyl so that it'd be more original.

Someone gave me a home depot color code that is supposed to match pretty close. I'm more than happy to share if you need it. Also, there was someone either here or the Neo-Geo forums that picked a stock color from home depot that is supposed to be close, too.

But I have never painted with stencils which I'm sure will need to be done to get the snk logo back on the sides. Has anyone had to do that on here?
If you're willing to wait a bit longer, I'm trying to finish up redrawing the logos to make new stencils. The logos that are out there are not perfect, so I've been redoing them, I just haven't had the chance to finish them.

Since it seems to have become the official KLOV "Show off your Neo" thread, you should read through this thread and post pics of yours! Also in there, you'll find examples of the various side art logos and my work on redrawing them as well.

Lastly, if you want a nice reproduction CP overlay, Anthony at Quarter Arcade just finished making some really damn nice ones, which can be purchased here (1 slot) and here (2/4 slot).
