A weird thing happened. I unplugged my Neo Planet T machine for a while, hooked up different stuff to the power strip it was attached to, re-plugged it in, and now the overlay graphics don't display all the time. After spins you're supposed to see graphics on the screen when special stuff (like triple 7s) comes up, but it doesn't do it any more, and sometimes the display just goes dark altogether. I turned it off, reset the machine, etc., but it doesn't display anything but the initial startup graphics. Any idea?

I dunno, but I have one of these as well so I'll be watching. There are settings in the menu like... to change how your EL display works, there's off, low, med, high.. . maybe yours is set to off?

Try asking on www.pachislodb.com's forums or pachitalk.com as well.

Could be. Although the menu is in Japanese (at least mine is). I can't find that option so far. Know where it is offhand?

Nah, it looks like a big oval with 4 options though. It says in english HIGH MED LOW. The rest is in Japanese though.

That could be it. I've seen it before. I'll try it tonight and see if it works. Thanks!

Found a setting with the words HIGH, MIDDLE and LOW. Changed the setting to HIGH and nothing different happened. I'm thinking there might be a loose connection to the display. I might just have to trace wires and find out where that might be.

Sorry it wasn't an easy fix. I hope it's just a loose wire. I suppose it's not impossible that the screen has died, either.

Not sure if it died, as I can see it come up occasionally, especially on startup. I'll play with it more and find out.

Oh duh, if it was dead you wouldn't be able to access the menu. That's weird, then. That menu is definitely for setting the level of EL activity during gameplay.

Maybe I missed it, and the Hi, Med, Low setting was for something else. I'll go back and check.

Nah, there's only one that is an oval with HIGH MED LOW. Dunno.

You might want to make sure you hit the "confirm" button and not the "exit" button.

I'll look and see if I screwed anything up. It's wierd, as soon as I put my first coin in, the graphics go away (normal), but then when an "event" happens where the graphical overlay is supposed to come back, it doesn't appear anymore like it used to.

BTW, went to pachi forums and they pointed me to a manual for $13. Reviews of it said it was really basic and had no detailed information.

Which one did you go to? Pachitalk.com has been really poor IMO but pachislodb.com are generally helpful IME.

Pachislodb.com people were okay. At least more people responded. Their database has a bunch of nice PDFs of the machine, though, all for free. Just an FYI—Seems that the HIGH, MED and LOW setting is for the frequency of events, not how much graphics are displayed.

In any case, I took the unit off my bar and plugged it in somewhere else, opened up the door, jiggled some wires, etc. Must've been a loose connection, because I got it back up and running where the secondary graphics set will run again. Plugged it back in on top of the bar and it's running fine again. Thanks for your help and advice!

Glad to hear it -- easy fixes are best. It's still weird though -- if the EL panel itself was disconnected, you shouldn't have been able to get to the menu. Maybe there's one connection that drives the menu, and another connection that drives in-game events? That doesn't make much sense, but I can't see any other explanation.

I guess it could've been some connection that wasn't directly to the EL panel but somehow affected the in game events but not the menu. *shrugs*

As far as I can tell, that may be exactly the case. It looks as if NeoPlaneTT has two EL screens; one on top of the other. One controls the intro and menu, and the other controls in-game events. The events one was not working correctly. And the menu background seems to be controlled by the secondary screen too, as it would go blank when I moved between selections. Another thing I noticed that was dependent on the secondary screen: coin insertion (1, 2 and 3 coins). There may be more, but that's what I noticed offhand.

Ahhh, that makes sense, except... WHY would they do that? Heh. It does explan what you were experiencing, though.
