is a z80 a z80? meaning are all z80 the same? I have a ms pac daughter board with a z80 can I use it to replace the z80 on my neo geo? Neo geo = z0840004psc ms pac= z80acpub1

The Z80A is a faster clock speed Z80.

Pretty much you can use a Z80A to replace Z80As or a Z80, but a Z80 can only replace another Z80.

They compute the same code, but due to the speed difference the Z80A is more universal.

At least, to my limited knowledge :D

Technically a Z80 is a Z80 is a Z80...

The speed difference is what they are rated for. A, B, C, E, and H are speed ratings. The higher the letter, the higher the speed ratings.

You can use a Z80 in place of a Z80A and it might work. It might last years. It might, however, lock up intermittently or just outright fail from overheating.

You never know!
