so i turn it on today after not playing if for quite awhile. comes on. no sound. then i try playing, the controls. i put it into test mode and the control work to navigate the setup screen but still no sound. any ideas?

by the way i posted this months ago and got another "working" neo geo 2 slot and i am having the same issue. i say "working" becuase i bought it off ebay. any help is appreciated.

What board model number is this happening on? And are you running this in a dedicated NeoGeo cabinet or another cabinet? Does it happen to reset or freeze on its own after playing for awhile?

try adjusting the slider for the volume also. The caps in the sound section are rated too low for the board and often go out. The standard deal is to replace them all with high temp caps.

Sound unsually gets low before going out so this may not be your problem but I would look into it either if it wasn't the problem.

well i have two board sets now acting the same way. no sounds and no buttons. it will coin up. then when you trow it in menu the joystick works but not the buttons.

It's NOT that the caps are underrated. It's a shitty brand of cap that they used. They dry out and the ESR goes sky high.

Problems with Neo Geo sound?

1. Disassemble the cart and clean the edge connectors with a pink pencil eraser. Clean the eraser dust off completely then reassemble.

2. Fold over some poster board a couple of times until it's as thick as a cartridge PC board. Wet it lightly with alcohol then insert/remove it several times.

3. Still no sound? Go into the hardware tests (flip sw 1) and clear the backup RAM.

4. Still no sound? Recap the audio section of the board.

No buttons? Check the grounds going to the control panel.
