Neo Geo Samurai Shodown IV graphics glitches question

I've got a SS4 cart I got recently and it functions fine control-wise, but 2 characters in particular seem to have graphics glitches, ranging from moderate to severe. Kazuki and Sogetsu (fire guy and water/ice guy). The glitches show up only during gameplay, not in cutscenes, or the intro, or character select screen. Ive cleaned the cart boards with alcohol and a q-tip and it doesn't seem to have fixed the issue.

Has anyone else experienced this with this particular game? I want to believe it's my board because it's slightly temperamental with dirty carts. Any time I get a new cart I have to make sure and clean off the contacts otherwise its like Im playing a violent game of tetris, lol. i'll try to get some screen shots when I get home.

You probably just need to clean your MVS slots. Theres an article on hardmvs.com that shows one way to do it.

Make sure you wait for the slots to dry completely before plugging the cab back in. That electronic cleaner tends to dry pretty fast, but I'd give it a couple hours to be certain.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll look into that. I have a 4 slot board and the glitches seem to follow the cart regardless of which slot its in.

There's also a chance that the cart you have is bootleg. Some of the bootlegs were not entirely accurate and have graphical glitches in wierd areas, from what I hear. Might wanna open it up and see if the boards match any of the sets at this link: http://mvs-scans.com/index.php/Samurai_Shodown_IV

Rule out a boot cart., first.

Then, clean the SSIV cart. boards real well with a PINK Eraser.

If that does not work then post a pick of the glitch and the front and back of the boards and PM XIAN XI.

Could be a lot of things at this point: cut trace, cold solder joint, bad rom, bad CMC chip.

jeez, been busy and finally got around to this. I've verified that it's not a boot. Though I didn't really have any suspicions on that.

Ive cleaned the contacts with some alcohol, they're squeaky clean. Nothing comes off when I wipe them now.

I just need to try and clean my board.

edit: here are some pics:

sorry to bump my old topic.

I ended up taking this cart to a friends house and checking it on his MVS board (also a 4 slot) and it did the same thing, so it's definitely not my board. He said it might be a solder joint somewhere, but I havent had time to look at it.

I'll try to get some high-falootin' pics of the boards when I get home today.

Are the boards snug in the housing? I have a cart where one of the boards isn't secure, so it doesn't make good contact & has some glitching. You can just take the boards out of the housing and slot them in directly — do you have the same problem then?

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that. I had a crazy day today so I wasn't able to get any pics, not even for a for sale thread I have. :(

I'll get some tomorrow though. Gotta hit the sack.

I had a similar issue with a blazing star cart. I found a bad trace on one of the boards (it was on the program Rom board in my case on the back side). Fixedup the trace and the game has worked great since.

Best of luck.

OK, got some pics of the SSIV boards, hope these are high rez enough.

Top Board

Bottom board

I tried to flip the bottom one over using photobucket, but it didn't work. Also, I tried removing the boards from the cart housing and the game runs exactly as before. Same glitches.

edit: dangit I think Photobucket resized them for some reason. If need be I can email them.

Looks like there may be some sketchy traces on the top board on the two lower chips. I would check there first.

Which of the top board images are you referring to? Im looking at the top front board image and I don't see any issues with soldering. But I dont exactly know what to look for, Im not very experienced with soldering.
