Thanks to GuidoTorpedo and Mr Do, I now have a Neo Geo MVS-2!! Mr Do made the long trip from New Jersey to Pittsburgh to pick up my Karate Champ, and along the way, picked up this from GuidoTorpedo for me.

It came with Metal Slug 4 and Street Slam, but I'll be picking up the 161-1 multicart for it shortly. The monitor needs to be capped and needs adjusted- the red and green are out of whack. It will also need a repro cpo that I'll pick up from QuarterArcade. Even though Mike threw in a 2-slot marquee for it, it's too long and not tall enough  I'll need to find another one to fit. Here are a few quick pics from yesterday:

Cab at the York show before David picked it up:

Quick cell pic after David dropped it off. You can see the scratched graffiti in the white letters. Don't know yet whether or not I will completely restore it:

I also wanted to say that I've met a lot of people on this forum and have made some good friends here over the last 4 years, and this was no different. David and his wife were a pleasure and what a great thing to do for me picking this up. I only wish we all had more time to hang out, but David didn't get back home until 1:30 AM. Now that's dedication!

Jealous.... I have a NeoGeo but it's in a crappy Dynamo cab with a crappy control panel with the wrong button layout.

Yeah, it looks like was originally a MVS-4 v1 and had a MVS-2 CP/mobo swapped in.

The MVS-2 has the phono jacks / MC reader in the cabinet. The -4s have them in the control panel.

Edited to add: The model number should be on the sticker on the top right, below the CP. Take a look at what it says.

Bummer.. so that is what that residue on my cabinet is from :( I figured it was a sticker they had placed and then removed, but it is in the exact spot you mentioned the model number would be on :( oh well, I am 100% certain my cabinet is a MVS-4-25 since it is a 25 inch monitor, 4 slot with the control panel head phone jacks and such.

I agree though, this definitely looks like a 4 slot that had a control panel swapped in its place as the headphone/memory card should be in the control panel.

Here's the sticker- it reads MVS-2... So, now what?

well, according to the sticker it says it is an MVS-2 slot cabinet, but the cabinet doesn't have the headphone jack/memory card slot built in.

The reason for the difference in location of the jack/memory card slot is due to the fact the MVS-4 slot has a seperate board that is mounted on the control panel and is cabled to the PCB for headphones and memory card. The 2 slot has the memory card and headphone jack on the board itself so it is mounted flush with the front for access.

So, do you think this was always an MVS-2 but had a control panel swap in its lifetime?

Well, only the sticker and control panel are MVS2. My guess is the factory didnt have any more MVS2 cabs to use. You can still put a MVS4 panel on it and be good to go. Does it have a 4-slot board installed? And does anyone know if 2 and 4 slot harnesses are the same?

Nope, it's got a 2-slot board installed that looks factory...

Sorry guys, I must be dense. I'm still not understanding here.

Shouldn't there be headphone jacks and a memory card slot on the control panel?

You asked me where the headphone jacks and memory card slot were after seeing the pics of an MVS-2. So I assumed that MVS-2's were supposed to have headphone jacks/memory card slot on the cp.

Then, this was posted ^^^ making me think it was originally an MVS-4, saying that the 4's were the ones with headphone jacks/memory card slot on the cp.

I agree though, this definitely looks like a 4 slot that had a control panel swapped in its place as the headphone/memory card should be in the control panel.

Then, this was posted making me completely confused! From the flyer, the MVS-4 and MVS-2's cabinets look exactly the same. If mine never had the headphone jacks/memory card slot on the cp, why did everyone think this was originally an MVS-4????:confused::confused:

Aha! I think I understand now! So, on the MVS-2, the headphone jack is supposed to be below the control panel here?

But mine doesn't have it there and it looks like the MVS-4 cab... or maybe originally an MVS-1? Sorry guys, I'm a noob when it comes to Neo Geo's- this is my first one and it's not a cab I was familiar with BITD.

Yes.

The 2-slot PCB has the memory card reader & headphone jack built in, and it's mounted flush against the front of the cabinet, where there are cutouts so you can access them. The 4-slot PCBs have the reader/jacks on a daughter card that mounts on a little shelf on the control panel.

So… Yeah, mystery that you have a 2-slot without the cutouts. It might be factory, but it seems unusual that they'd ship something with a non-accessible MC slot / headphone jacks.

The good news is that your MC reader is probably minty fresh instead of being jammed full of pennies and gum.

I was just going to order a repro cpo from Anthony and realized, I have the staggered button layout. Dammit! Has anyone seen art or a repro of this button layout? I really don't want to patch and then cut new holes in my cp...

Got my 161-1 multicart yesterday and the kids were having a blast with it last night. One question- when I hold in the button to go back to the main menu, I get what looks to be a hard reset with jumbled graphics on the screen. In about 5-10 seconds, it's back to the menu and working properly. Is that normal?
