Does anyone have a good cheap source for MVS motherboard batteries?

Does anyone have a good cheap source for MVS motherboard batteries?

I bought an old cordless phone battery on clearance somewhere and ran wires a couple inches off to the left and into an old altoids tin. Since the battery was the same type (nicad) and voltage (3.6 perhaps?), it works just fine with the existing charger circuit.

This has the disadvantage of it being more work when removing the motherboard, but the advantage that even if I don't do anything about it for N years, the battery can't damage the MB.

it's a little too mcgyver for me.

I know some guys modify it to take a CR2032 type battery.

Well, I did put a connector on (I used a 1/8 inch headphone connector on the board, plug on the battery), but hey, to each his own.

If you go the 2032 route, the important thing is to make sure you put the diode or whatever inline properly to prevent the charging circuit from damaging the battery.

Also, Google led me to this:

You can get a 3.6v PCB mount ni-cad from lots of electronics suppliers. It's always the shipping that kills you - that's why I remoted mine, I was able to get the battey locally!

Thanks guys... I think I'll get new batteries for my MVS boards out on service cause they are played daily.

For my home board I'm going to put in the CR2032 holder. I just got a couple of them at the local surplus store for super cheap. I can stock them and put them in my FS thread.

hey just did my second replacement last night/

here's the result:

i received this 2 slot board as a temporary replacement to mine as my powersupply exploded and shot +14 volts over the 5v line killing my video ram. The board i got was repaired a bunch in its past and i had to retrace a few lines from where the old battery began to leak over the board destroying shit. ignore the blue wires they are replacement lines i had to run to get it working again.

its easy, just make sure you cut one end of the 470 ohm resistor to prevent the curcuit from charging the non-rechargable cr2032. otherwise it will explode in a matter of hours
