Neo-Geo MVS-4 Restoration 1st Timer. HELP WANTED

ALBUM UPDATED WITH NEW PICS

Hello all,

I just picked up my first arcade cabinet last weekend and it's pretty much gutted minus speakers, control panel, coin door, and motherboard. I plan on restoring this to it's original luster and have got tons of help from people on reddit and some guys within the community so far. I could use as much input as possible, on the steps I should take and in what order, what type of whatever to use, etc.

Thanks in advance.

These pics are the current status. Yesterday I removed the buttons and sticks from the CP, but I'm having trouble removing the memory card/headphone board. I took out the 4 small screws and nuts, but it still won't budge. Any ideas?

Good luck! Doesn't look like it's in the bad of a shape. Don't be afraid to ask questions!

So yesterday I took everything out, so the cabinet is bare. Do you suggest the first thing I do is remove the T-molding and repaint it?

Also, the Red on the sides, seems to be some sort of vinyl or something. Should I just paint over that?

Also, what is a good color match for the cabinet color? Or maybe even something to get mixed.

Thanks,

Slow down, how bad are the red sides? I would be cautious repainting over the MVS logos, that color is a tough match. Here is a link to some color matches that may work if you must repaint http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?183153-big-red-MVS-paint-color

Emdkay can get you the MVS logos. Make sure you use enamel paint and put on some primer first. Also, look into replacing your battery on your motherboard as it can burst and spill acid all over the guts. http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?203428-The-bad-battery-thread

I didn't paint my sides, just the black and it came out pretty nice. Good luck with the resto!

If the vinyl on the sides is in rough shape, it can come off. You can then sand the MDF underneath it, give it a few coats of some good primer, sand it again, then hit it with a good paint match. The "Big Red" red is kinda tough to match but it's possible.

I found the best way to get the vinyl off was to use a blow dryer or heat gun (very low setting) and warm it up, then it will come off with some patience and a scraper. But ashburton is right, see if it's definitely salvageable.

I wish someone out there would reproduce the red vinyl for the sides. HINT HINT.

It's not bad, I just can't figure out a good way to get it really clean without scratching the mess out of it. I think I'm going to keep the "Been there done that, been around" look, instead of re doing the whole thing.

I did see on a forum where someone found a pretty nice color match though, but not vinyl, but with Formica.

Yeah I've seen that. It looks nice but was pretty expensive. And without a side by side it's hard to know how close it really is...not that its a huge deal when it looks that awesome :)

I thought about making the entire side graphics that is authentic looking but I know the color matching is going to be near impossible... And I would have to use a matte laminate to give it the matte finish they come with. If I did all of that it would probably look dam near exact like its from the factory. Maybe I will look into it more in the next week or two.

If you still need measurements for the 4 slot v1 cab, let me know and I'll see what I can do. I've looked around and can't find the exact measurements anywhere online for this particular cab.
