I will start by saying this is my first full on restoration. When I bought the cab, the back and bottom was very water damaged. The bottom 3" and most of the back was swollen to over 1"! So I started by sanding, Bondo and cut all new pieces for the back. The wood on the left of the monitor also had a chunk taken out. I Bondoed that up and routed a t-molding channel. The EL panels were out so I wired in a fluorescent.
Heres my rundown.

Painted the red
Black vinyl from thisoldgame.com
side art and player arrows from member darthphunk
t-molding from quarterarcade
New CPO from quarterarcade (very nice btw)
new buttons and joysticks
cleaned and capped the monitor
painted all metal pieces
painted pcb cage and service panel

I didnt take any before pics. All I did was cut out the damaged area, used some wood hardener, replaced the bottom 3", bondoed, primed then vinyl. Easy as 1,2,3!

Very nice! I got that exact same one but its missing ALOT of parts. I have been real close to getting rid of it several times but just keep hanging on to it. Probably cause it ways a fricken ton and I don't wanna haul it!!

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just found this. I'm currently trying to "restore" this exact cabinet (I have a thread on here). I came to the conclusion that I just want it to work right now, so I'm just gathering parts and everything so i can get it going.

But what I wanna know is your paint technique, did you remove the vinyl? sanding? and the color codes that you used for the red. For down the line I thought about painting it, then I thought about formica, then i just didn't know, haha. But yours looks fantastic painted, and if that is cheaper and easier, I would be perfectly fine with painting mine.

I had some more questions but they escape me at the moment.

Thanks

What I did was new black vinyl on the bottom from this old game. The top I left the old formica, sanded, bondo, sanded and painted with Behr S-G-180 Grenadine and bought decals from member darthphunk.

If you have any other questions, dont hesitate to ask!

This looks amazing! I recently picked up one of these that needs restoration. (Side art is missing and someone took a box cutter to the sides to remove it :'(, holes in the cpo, non-original joysticks, marquee backlight is dead)

I didn't know where to start, but your post gives some good detail. Thanks for sharing!
