Hey guys,

I have the Neo Geo MV1FZ board, and I was interested in doing the stereo mod to it seen here: http://www.neobitz.com/Pages/Mods/MV1FZ-S.aspx

This mod, however, was only done for RCA jacks and not stand-alone speakers. My speakers have a negative and positive terminal, but the mod only outputs one signal for each speaker. How would I hook this up to the speakers in my cabinet?

Does nobody know? Is this even possible? I've read things about an op-amp and such... I want to make sure this is possible before I start soldering things off of my board.

Uh...

The one signal is the audio... the other wire you need is simply ground!

Beware. The outputs from that mod are line level. They are NOT enough to drive speakers. You'll need an amplifier too!

What kind of amplifier should I use?

edit: I just realized that you're the same guy from neo-geo.com forums too! Excellent!

I just found an old Kenwood stereo car amp that has a 12V input. Would it work fine to tap into the PSU's +12V output in order to power it?

As long as you do not overdrive the power supply... Check the output on the PS (Amps) and figure out the draw from the AMP and game....

The only downside to using a car stereo amp is that they are built to be LOUD, thus they draw a lot of current. You can probably get some cheap arcade game amp for little to nothing if you put a post in the WTB section.

I remember reading somewhere that, after a little modding, the amp in old computer speakers works well for this. I haven't tried it myself yet though.

Can I use an old PC power supply to run the car amp? It seems that the amp takes a maximum of 15A and the PSU I have outputs a max of 18A on the +12V.

You would fry your speakers before you even got close to half the amp's output power.

Well, it doesn't put out 15 amps, only input, and I've only determined this because the fuse on it is a 15A fuse. The amp itself is 200 watts maximum, but I've read that it's only like 35 watts RMS for two speakers, and 100 watts RMS for one. I've never done anything with audio electronics before, so if anything I'm saying doesn't seem to make sense, that's why :p

The speakers I bought for my cab actually are car speakers with up to 100 watts for each.

I'm surprised that car speakers don't interfere with the monitor thanks to their big magnets.

Thank you guys for all of your help! I got the stereo working!

Now, I have only one more issue. The coin sounds are only coming out of the left speaker. I was following this picture instead of the schematic: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2580/3833403421_9c9d3f7dc5_o.png

I did the merge part by putting a large blob of solder on the plus sides of the caps in the middle part of that diagram, and connecting the ym2610 wire directly to that blob. Is this the main problem? Would it be a better idea to get rid of the blob, and have the wire go off into two separate wires that go into the two separate parts of the circuit?
