Neo Geo MV1-1 rebooting issue - no more chicken bones!
My NEO GEO MV1 motherboard (first gen, the big one (http://www.hardmvs.com/html/MV-1.htm)) has started acting up and I cant figure out why. It used to work fine. Sure, it was a little touchy when you didnt insert a cart correctly, but when you did, it worked. Now, if I am lucky, I can play a game for 5 mins and then it kicks me to the setup/test menu (sometimes it will reboot back into the game again a couple of times). Not the "grid" screen you get when the cart isn't installed or it cant detect it, but like a menu button has been pressed somewhere. I can try to exit the menu, but it just recycles back to it.
The Samurai Shodown works the best (5mins), but my 161-in-1 drop directly to the menu - unless it has been off all night (last week it worked ok). In that case it will play the first game chosen for a few minutes, then drop to the menu screen.
I have the original BIOS.
Have tried it in another jamma cab with the same results.
Have tried adjusting the +5 volts up/down a little - no change.
Have done cleaning of contacts including the Jamma edge (multiple times)
All dip switches are off
Have checked continuity from the mobo to the interface pcb
Have checked the cart (at Auric's house on a 6-slot machine)
Have inserted lightly, strongly, reverently etc.....
PCB does not appear to be damaged in any way.
I have spent hours trying to get it to work. started doing things like turning it upside down to help keep electrons from pooling in the bottom of the board, but that didnt work either
Am I missing something really, really simple? I don't have any voodoo chicken bones and my wife forbade me from scratching pentagrams in the garage and placing the machine in the middle. Something about,"Don't you remember what happened last time....otherworldly help is no help at all!"
So I could use some worldly help.
