Neo Geo credit counters showing "80" and "20"

Any idea why Neo Geo credit counters would show "80" and "20" for player 1 and 2 respectively, by default? When credits are added the second digit does increment correctly.

Admittedly a MVS neophyte, but I did swap them for two others which showed the same thing.

Seems like some broken outputs/bits stuck. There's a few electronics on the credit pcb that may give some info, here's a partial schematic:

As we don't know your motherboard type, there's no way to know what's causing it at this point. You say you swapped the boards, but did you try swapping the cables yet to see if it is a broken cable perhaps?

PCB area involved shows 2 chips at 2a and 3d marked '2003' as far as i can tell.

Should be fairly close to the 1P and 2P white header(s) on your mainboard. I'd take a logic probe to those and see what 3A's data out/in is doing.

Thanks for the reply.

It's a 6-slot MVS board. Swapped the credit/timer PCBs yup, but not cables.

Next steps were indeed cable checks back to the MVS board, and logic probe time. Was hoping to get lucky with a "oh well shit boy howdy, that's a known issue, punch it five times and sacrifice a chicken" fix :)
